Education is one of the most important tools of modern society. It has been said that teaching is the one profession that creates all other professions. Public education is a costly investment, but an important one. Unfortunately, Oklahoma currently ranks near the bottom when it comes to public education. The state also has a massive budget problem which ties state legislature’s hands in their options to fixing the issue. This leaves students in the public education system in a dangerous position as their curriculum is being compromised. The importance of an unbiased education cannot be stressed enough. The thinkers of tomorrow are being created in classrooms. To skew their understanding of a topic by offering information as completely true, whether by necessity or option, is to damage their ability to see issues from an unbiased point of view. The lens by which students learn is invaluable-it is the very reason some feel the need to shell out thousands of dollars to have their students taught from certain perspectives in private schools. Those in private schools may have a certain cultural, religious, or academic lens. It is expected that …show more content…
Being honest, the OERB knows why they spend this money. No one spends large dollars without gaining a return. The OERB knows that young children are impressionable. They know that their workforce is aging and it is necessary to replenish. They know that even the students who don’t go into the oil and natural gas industry directly are going to go on to become voters, doctors, lawyers, teachers, and community members that could ultimately affect their work. Setting the stage early and almost sublimely, they hope to keep the students drinking the kool aid that is, “We need the oil and gas industry. Oklahoma can’t survive without them. They can do no
The other option, Policy B, would be to lay the ground for the privatization of the Oklahoma education system, which would be regulated by the state government, that would lead to a mix of schools funded by philanthropical purposes and others will be ran for profit. This would let the government step back and let private entities do the majority of the teaching in the state, the state would provide school vouchers for these students to attend these schools. This policy would be a regulatory policy because it would give some power of education to the private sector which would be regulated by the state. The ultimate
In Gerald Graff’s article “Hidden Intellectualism,” from the 2003 copy of They Say I Say, the author explores the idea of what true intellectualism is by recalling pieces of his childhood. The way schools and society view intellectualism comes in to questions as being one sided or false altogether . There remain several sides to the argument regarding education and include anything regarding what should be taught, how it should be taught, and what marks the mastering of a subject. With true education as well as the proper way to teach being a heavily debated topic of controversy, the question of the right way to teach is heavily sought after. Public education has always been a topic of intense controversy in the United States since its early founding years.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: Ignorance Vs. Reason in the War on Education Kareem Abdul-Jabber writes an article explaining the attack on education and the serious problems in the classroom involving teachers and students. Abdul-Jabbar describes how students only hold on to one perspective; students should explore different perspectives on topics, and question education’s opinions on practical matters. Republicans, Democrats, and non-partisan discuss this controversy over education.
This encourages students to be narrow-minded and arrogant which totally diminishes the goal of education. Given this norm in academics, those who
A child is struggling to learn at his/ school. He is more of a visual learner, like learning with pictures and shapes in front of him. His school, however, does not have the power and funding to do such things for him, which leaves him struggling and get bad grades. Now, why does he have to struggle in a school system which can’t even support his learning style?
Texas was fortunate enough to have a few people step up and provoke change the status quo. Ross Perot fought hard with no remorse, and eventually led to the successful reformation of the Texas education system. While football may be what America is known for, quality education should be something it strives
Home schooling is a trending concept that is popular mostly in US and around the world. Home schooling preferred often by the parents that have environmental concerns, religious beliefs, lack of confidence to the education quality of the public and private schools and inadequacy of curriculum. They believe that they can give better education to their children at home. Public school funding Increasing school funding is very important in today’s future American students. There are public schools all over the world and those in public schools are not getting the proper education that they need. It seems public schools only provide the public with the bare minimum. This bare minimum can become very discouraging to parents, students and the entire public community in which the school is. Most Supreme Court rulings agree that school districts across the nation, and across the world, really only need to provide the bare minimum legally. This present an issue, if the professionals are only supposed to give the bare minimum then they themselves will be given the bare minimum.
Education Reforms Education reform is legislation to improve the quality of education in the United States. Once, grades were the most important achievement for students. However, politicians and the public were concerned that our standardized test scores were not as good as those of other countries. Therefore, state and national governments started making laws to make school more challenging and to test kids more. One of those laws was “No Child Left Behind”.
Though there have been many philosophies of education over the years, there are two that encompass my belief system most, traditional and progressive. Most educators do not believe both philosophies can exist at the same time; however, during my study it became apparent that the two philosophies do not have to be mutually exclusive. In sharing my personal philosophy of education, I will share the benefits of both theories and how I would like to see them combined for the benefit of my school and
Many parents believe that homeschooling is the best option for their children. For those people who don’t know what exactly homeschooling is, “A home school is a school in which parents teach their children an academic curriculum at home instead of sending them out to a public or private school. Home schooling is legal throughout Europe, Australia, New Zealand, North America, Hong Kong, and South Africa. Home schooling is legally accepted in all 50 states of the U.S., but each state has its own laws that a family must adhere to.
Henry Ford once said, “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress. Working together is success” (Brainy Quote). From here, the concept of inclusive education, including students with and without learning disabilities as peers in the same classroom, originated. The aim of this type of education is to get students with learning disabilities involved in the society. Teachers and fellow students will also provide help for students with disabilities; in this way, students with learning disabilities will be motivated to study as they feel that they are a part of a group instead of being isolated in special places.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once had a dream in which he calls for an end to racism in the U.S. and calls for civil and economic rights. So much has changed since then, but there are still problems that are in the process of being solved. When a person treats a group differently because of that group 's religion, it 's unfair. For a character who has different beliefs, it should not address them the right to criticize another individual. Nowadays, humans judge other humans by the way there features stand out.
Education is a huge issue that not only affects kids and their parents, but their community as well. Schools teach young kids to become the next generation of engineers, technicians, and political leaders, working towards creating a better future for their country and their community. Teachers have the unique job of creating the future leaders of the world, and preparing them for both college and life beyond, by putting a special push towards math and science, the so-called “foundation” of our society. The hard truth is, no one can be anything they want to be. Some people are simply not cut out to be engineers, doctors, or psychologists.
