The Pros And Cons Of Slavery

Many people would think that slavery ended with the abolition in the 19th century but in fact it is double today. Modern day slavery refers to forced marriage, debt bondage, delivery of a child for the exploitation of that child, prostitution and so many others and is taken from the 1956 UN supplementary convention. "Human trafficking” has been used as a term for actions that comprises someone being obtained or a person held in forced service. The main forms of slavery that will be looked at are slavery in labor, where people are forced to work, child slavery, in which people under the age of 18 or even much younger are forced to work in extreme conditions and lastly sex slavery where mostly women and children are forced into prostitution.

Forced labor is one of the main aspects of slavery as almost 78% of the laborers in the primary or secondary industry are slaves. There are close to 21 million people who are forced to work in the world. Also known as involuntary bondage, could result when employers take advantage of the situation where the rates of unemployment, crime or other problems in an area. Immigrants are particularly vulnerable, but individuals also may be forced into labor in their own countries. Female victims of forced labor, are often subject to sexually exploitation. Income produced from forced labor itself generates almost $150 billion in illegal profits per year. Another form of labored slavery is the usage of a debt. Usually called a “debt bondage”.
