(2009) in a private university in the northeast US. The survey was around 400 level class contain a cross section of all majors. Students were asked to voluntarily participate in the survey. The items used for measuring personality factors were adopted from the FFM. Students self-reported the time that they spent on Facebook each day. In conclusion of this survey they found that individuals high on the trait of extraversion were more likely to belong to Facebook groups than introverted individuals. Those high on the trait of neuroticism reported that the Wall was their favorite Facebook component. Openness to experience was found to be related to higher levels of being sociable through Facebook. More generally, the authors find few significant findings in relation to the personality variables. On the other hand the survey was conducted by Amichai- Hamburger and Vinitsky (2010) found that students who were high on extroversion had a greater number of Facebook friends, extraversion was not associated with the use of Facebook groups. Both Ross et al. (2009) and Amichai-Hamburger and Vinitsky (2010) were not able to find a relationship between personality variables and the intensity of Facebook
It may have an impact because females made up 75% of the respondents and 52% of the respondents reported scrolling through active social media accounts while either studying or doing homework. However, there was a very small difference between respondents that reported that they did not scroll through active accounts (44%). The results cannot prove whether there is a relationship between gender and if a person scrolls through active social media accounts while trying to study or do homework. The number of males and female are disproportionate. It may seem that females are more likely to scroll through active social media accounts, but the willingness of mostly females to respond to the survey needs to be taken into
To further convince the reader, Ludden uses a study referenced in a journal by the credible Duke University psychologist, Jenna Clark. The study addresses college students and how the more Facebook friends that freshman had, the less socially adjusted they felt, whereas with seniors, the more Facebook friends they had, the more socially adjusted they felt (Ludden). This was due to a majority of the freshmans' friends being friends from high school or back home, whereas most of the seniors' friends were friends that they had made in college, therefore they were more connected with them because they interacted with them both online and in person. This study makes it easier to understand how the effect that social media has on you fully depends on your use of it. It makes sense that one would feel isolated and less connected to their environment when they are spending their free time connecting with those who aren’t around them.
I disagree with Dailey’s results; strong friendships and bonds can be created over social media. Some people lack the social skills needed to make friends with their next door neighbor or the person standing next to them in their local market. “Facebook may not replace the full benefits of real friendship, but it definitely beats the alternative” (Dailey 144). For these people, Facebook is the perfect venue to get to know someone that they
The significance of this paper to the report is that is has used both the Big 5 Personality Measure and the Oxford Happiness Inventory, there has not been much research that uses both these measures to look at the association of extraversion and happiness, and most use students or small samples. Further research is needed with a larger and more diverse sample of participants in order for these results to be backed, this is what the following study aims to do. Overall this essay aims to explore the relationship between extraversion and happiness. The hypothesis of this study is: ‘Those who are more extroverted are more likely to be happy’.
She states that the Internet seemed to make the users feel more alienated. To support her assumption, she provides research findings which confirmed that the use of Internet had a significant detrimental effect of overall well-being. Some of the negative results of the increasing use of social media are a greater change of friend groups and acquaintances, increased awareness of the livelihood of our fellow peers, and more exposure to the world around us. With all these results, it is easy to see why young adults continue to become distant and flexible later on in their lives than those of previous generations. One of the most prominent consequences of the continued use of social media is the increase in average age of
I felt that this was a very important piece of information to factor in when coming to this conclusion. The increasing lack of human interaction with one another is causing society’s social skills to slowly fade away. When asked, most people would say it is easier to talk and interact with somebody online rather than in person. Interacting online creates a sort of distance, like an uncanny costume, that can isolate one from humanity. I feel as if the internet has affected today's generation, including myself, the most.

Apps like Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, and Buzzfeed can cause a decrease in the overall products of students’ works and an increase in the amount of time needed to complete the product because of the incessant notifications that show up on an individual’s screen every five minutes. In a 2011 study conducted by Wade Jacobsen and Renata Forste on “Academic and Social Outcomes of Electronic Media Use Among College Students,” they concluded from more than 1,000 undergraduates that 2.45 hours are spent on the internet, and an hour is usually spent watching television. When a student’s final product is not up to the standards or is incomplete, it can severely affect their grades in school.
