African Americans should not have to be scared to go outside any day thinking they might not make it home. African Americans feel targeted in today’s society because so many innocent African Americans are being incarcerated, shot, and killed. Since 2001, it is 6.1 times likelier to be incarcerated as a black man than a white man. This is all because of skin color. Black Lives Matter (BLM) was a group created to raise awareness for the heinous acts the have presented itself to the black community
The police jumped into action and treated this case with urgency. The type of injustice that this conflict displayed was distributive injustice. Distributive injustice “is concerned with the criteria that lead you to feel you received a fair outcome” (Deutsch, 2007, p. 44). I believe in most cases involving black people the news make the police out to be bad guys. The most recent cases with the killing of African American males will make you think that the police don’t care about Blacks.
Additionally, the author of the article Keep Confederate monuments, but put their horrific history on stage describes how Americans have been “willfully blind” about racial justice and that the statues could be used as reminders of the “catastrophic consequences” (Cose). The real reason why amends haven’t been made between the races, especially blacks and whites, may be due to the unjust treatment that blacks experience. In order for both sides to reconcile, the nation needs to openly admit the wrongs of participating in slavery and allow the past to stay in the past. The past shouldn’t be forgotten, but it should also be a way for individuals to learn and make
Just Mercy was written in 2014, In modern day society, racial injustice has a big impact in this world today, as stated in Just Mercy and To Kill a Mockingbird. Showing that they are both related in many ways. The characters from To Kill A Mockingbird deal with racial injustice first hand. Scout, the narrator and daughter of Atticus Finch, experienced racial injustice of her father’s court case with Tom Robinson, an African American. Tom was accused of raping a white woman who was Mayella Ewell, Mayella said he raped her while he was helping her with chores.
Racial Profiling Research Paper For the past 20 years we have witnessed many incidents with racial profiling leading to police brutally. Racial profiling ,the use of race or ethnicity as grounds for suspecting someone of having committed an offense, is very common in the United States. In this paper we will not be covering any school related subjects, harsh prison cell conditions, etc. Instead, I will only be discussing the effects of racial profiling. Although some may say that racial profiling is not a problem but the fact that it leads to police brutality, racial profiling in its essence is discriminatory against all people of color proving that it is very unjust.
Black Lives Matter was formed in 2012 in response to Trayvon Martin’s murder. Once George Zimmerman, was acquitted for his crime, black communities came together to actively resist the dehumanization of black males and females. Black Lives Matter is a call to action and a response to the fatal anti-Black racism that saturates our society, and paralyzes growth of the African American success. Black Lives Matter is more than just an organization that tells blacks to support each other and stop black on black crime, or even police brutality. But Black Lives Matter movement is meant to encourage individuals to stand together against inequalities against black people.
The Los Angeles riots began on April 29, 1992. The riots started because four white police officers beat Rodney King, an African American. Rodney had been pulled over by police after an eight-mile chase and then refused to get to the ground. A man had videotaped the scene and it was broadcasted in the United States (Wallenfeldt). Jeff Wallenfeldt, the author of the article published on Britannica, wrote, “Although many Angelenos in the late 20th century prided themselves on their city’s ethnic diversity, there was a strong feeling on Los Angeles’s minority communities that the city’s predominantly white police force practiced racial profiling and engaged in racist brutality against African Americans and Hispanics” (Wallenfeldt).
The promote racism and think it is ok to hurt people because of their race. They also believe that their race is better than another. I just want those people to know that is not ok to say hurtful things to other people. Nobody deserves to die because they are not a certain skin color, or aren’t a part of a certain religion. We all are people and deserve to live peacefully in America without thinking that someone is going to kill them.
Alicia Garza: co-creator of the #BlackLivesMatter movement (BLM) advocates that -“Black Lives Matter doesn’t mean your life isn’t important – it means that Black lives, which are seen as without value within White supremacy, are important to your liberation. Given the disproportionate impact state violence has on Black lives, we understand that when Black people in this country get free, the benefits will be wide-reaching and transformative for society as a whole. When we are able to end the hyper-criminalisation of Black people and end the poverty, control and surveillance of Black people, every single person in this world has a better shot at getting and staying free. When Black people get free, everybody gets free.” (The Conversation,2017). On that note; does ‘Black Lives Matter’ mean that only black lives matter; or is it the concept that Black lives mattering is a precondition for all lives mattering?
To me, racism still exists because the people I’m around say racist things.Social; media is filled with racism, for me, racism can’t be eliminated because they tried once it didn’t work.Black Lives Matter might be rooted in the killing of black bodies at the hands of police.Or, it might be rooted in the lack of safety that black people feel in a polity that regards them.100 years ago somebody pointed this problem out.In this way, the 21st century is not much different from those previous.Black Lives Matter is an activist movement, that started on July 13, 2013.The community is against violence and systemic racism toward black people. On July 15, 2013, George Zimmerman a neighborhood watch captain who shot Trayvon Martin a teen just walking around
