Those words might sound unfamiliar, but language, indeed, is one factor in deciding if students want to study abroad. The French question translates to “What do you need to know about study abroad?” and answers that usually come up are places, cost, and experimenting with new culture. However, after looking through more arguments about studying abroad, many concerns can be found and classified. Studying abroad can be classified under decisions to consider before studying abroad, problems or benefits of students who came back from studying abroad, and within these categories, smaller divisions can be made. Many of these topics are not well-known,but should be considered because deciding to study abroad can be a major change in a person’s life. This topic also falls under the places to go category. With attacks happening, colleges are concerned about sending their students abroad. However, for colleges who still supports studying abroad, safety measures are taken. From a peer-reviewed magazine and website, Chronicle of Higher Education wrote “colleges are establishing dedicated positions to deal with international risk management." This quote puts forward the argument that studying abroad can be dangerous, but its counter argument shows that students are given lessons on how to manage situations if they were to arise. The world needs innovative thinkers who are risk takers. According to Ben Wielder, “... the social pressure for students to pursue ‘lower-risk trajectories’ in their career choices will lead to less innovation in the future” (Wielder). This cannot be true for college provides many risk factors; unemployment, student loans, and debt. Obtaining a degree results in an ability to focus and become flexible in a changing world. From the words of Michael Roth, these qualities “...make for intelligent, and sometimes courageous risk taking for critical assessment of those risks” (Roth).
There is an old Moorish proverb that reads, “He who does not travel, does not know the value of man.” That quote resonates deep within me because I have a yearning to use my education to empower those in need. In order to do so, I need to see and experience the world outside of the one I am accustomed to. Curiosity is one of the traits that define the person that I am; because of this trait I always ask questions about the world around me and the people I meet. This is one of the driving forces behind my desire to venture outside of the United States to learn a new language and culture.
As excited as I am for my learning abroad program, I know that travel comes with challenges. Everything about this travel experience will be new; I’ve never travelled away from home or even flown on a plane before. Considering the obstacles I’ve had to face in my life, this trip would be a personal triumph, and I know I would return a stronger person. Doing something for the first time naturally makes me nervous, but my excitement is even more powerful than my nerves.

Due to several campus shootings, some states have contemplated the idea of whether or not to authorize guns on campus colleges. For some states, shootings are situations that point in a need to allow concealed carry weapons on campus. On the other hand, other states seek to the need to strict restrictions on keeping guns off campuses. Since the legalization of licensed concealed carry of handguns on Texas colleges and universities has been an issue of debate, the most important role for any institution is to provide a safe learning environment, and this can be accomplish by creating school programs that promote training and awareness for students.
Safety is something we all strive for in our lives and we need it as much as we need air. Sadly, recent events in the world have put this safety at risk, something that must be changed. Being a university student, safety at the campus I commune to daily is of the upmost importance. The violence on school campuses has gotten worse as the time goes on, a total of 19 shootings has happened in 2015 alone. This may not seem like a lot, but the 40 deaths in these shootings respectively say different.
Summary In Andrew Delbanco's essay, College At Risk, he talks about college education in America and at some different points, he compares them to other countries education systems. In the beginning of his essay, the basis of American college education is discussed, and how furthering your education past high school helps us become productive adults. It is also mentioned how college is a place to expand your knowledge and critical thinking skills. It is pointed out that other countries may have a better education system and possibly outperform the U.S. when it comes to certain jobs.

Studying abroad is a growing opportunity that many people around the world of all different ages take. In 2012, over 760 thousand international students studied abroad in the United States alone. The positive reasons for studying abroad are numerous, but there are also negative ones too. Studying abroad brings with itself a lot of preparation and responsibility. Also many people see acculturating oneself and making new friends in a new place can be challenging.
Further, students who study abroad think the experience is beneficial for their career path and success in the future [e.g., Dwyer, 2008; Orahood, Kruze, & Pearson, 2008]. They also become more responsible. However, there are various student prefer to study in Kuwait by reason of it is their country and they don’t aspire to leave their families and travel to study abroad. Also, employers report that they believe students who study abroad have strong interpersonal skills, a significant qualification for a potential job candidate [Doorbar, 2003].
