This year has been really hectic, with protests and elections alike. Something that had to do with the protests part is the Dakota Access Pipeline, or DAPL. Most people would probably think that the Dakota Access Pipeline is just another pipeline, like the Alaska pipeline, except, it's not just another pipeline. The reason why DAPL is important is because of the fact that it is running over ancient indian land, and not only that it is going over their water source.The clean water the Sioux once had could be gone in just a few months with DAPL going over the standing rock’s water (Michael Bennet). This tragedy could destroy a main water source, and it could be terrible , “The Dakota Access Pipeline, DAPL is controversial because of its proximity to the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. Some fear that it will leak into the Missouri River and poison the water supply of downstream communities such as Fort Yates, tribal headquarters of the Standing Rock Sioux.” (Michael Bennet) DAPL could greatly affect people even outside of North Dakota, and even then there would be more pollution in America than there already is. Not only that, but the police and army corps were shooting people with rubber bullets, and spraying them with hoses in below 0 temperatures. This could put a horrible effect on the police because they are using riot control for a mainly peaceful protest. If you didn’t know already, DAPL could actually lead to more smog in the US, and if not removed could make our pollution rate a lot higher than it already is. Also on top of that, there is already a problem with smog in certain parts of the US, for example the Hudson river is so heavily polluted it can be dangerous to swim in it.
