When it comes to political parties, the Green Party of the United States fits my political beliefs and stance the best. The Green Party believes in “green politics' ' such as environmentalism, social justice, anti-war, anti-racism, libertarian socialism, ecosocialism, participatory democracy, and non violence. The first topic I will be discussing is abortion and the controversial opinions about it plus its debates. The second topic that will be talked about is the death penalty and the different stances upon it. And my third topic will be on the right to die and its morality. The topic about natural born human rights and the right to our bodies and choices on it has always been in debate, and abortion has and probably always will be a part …show more content…
The “issue” surrounding this is the different opinions on whether or not abortion should be allowed and whether or not it is morally correct, and if it is possibly the murder of a human being with rights. According to the article “NI POLITICAL PARTIES – WHERE DO THEY STAND ON ABORTION AND THE RIGHT TO LIFE?” The Green Party believes that they support abortion in absolutely every circumstance. The article also states that The Green Party would also like to remove public funding towards anti-choice groups. From what I know, sometimes abortion is necessary, sometimes it is needed to prevent or stop things that go wrong with pregnancies, and sometimes it is just because someone does not believe they are fit to carry a baby, and that is okay. My stance is that people should have the right over their own bodies and should be able to make a choice such as abortion if they feel that is what they want. I will always believe that people have the right to their body and to do what they please. Nothing will stop me from believing that it is someone’s choice to do this, and that having “natural born human rights” should include the right to your body. Abortion is not just the act of terminating a baby, or having a choice, it’s human reproductive health care, and should not be taken away. So for these reasons, I believe abortion is absolutely a necessary option to …show more content…
The death penalty is also known as “capital punishment” and is the execution of a person following a crime. This means that if people see it as so, people who commit crimes worthy of it, they can be executed as punishment. According to the “Green Party Positions Article” The Green Party firmly believes in the opposing of the death penalty, due to believing in non violence and peace. They believe in getting rid of the death penalty as well as mandatory sentencing. My view on the death penalty is very 50/50 and I really do not know what my stance is. Both sides have good points, and on one hand I believe it is immoral and does not serve any justice especially if someone is falsely convicted, but for some crimes I believe if guilty it isn’t that horrible of a punishment. On the topic of false conviction and how many people on death row tend to be innocent, the the article “Justice Is Not Served with the Death Penalty” by Raymond Lesniak explains it well, stating that “Since 1973, 130 human beings on death rows throughout the United States have been released from jail for being wrongfully convicted. During that time, over 1,100 prisoners were executed. How many of them were innocent? 3,309 remain on death row-” (Lesniak 2013). Meaning that a lot of people waiting for their execution can be innocent. I believe that the death penalty does in fact just make a society that is led with revenge and
A Women’s Right To Make Her Own Healthcare Decisions I am a strong pro-choice Democrat who believes that women must have the freedom to make their own healthcare decisions. The landmark decision of Roe v. Wade ensured that women have the right to decide what happens to their bodies free from governmental legislation. The right for a woman to an abortion is a personal decision that should only be made by the woman through consultation with her friends, family, and medical professionals. Sadly, numerous legislators disagree with this view and continually attempt to limit a woman’s right to choose.
Being on death row often prolongs the pain for the inmate. They spend their time in prison fearing the inevitable which for them is death. Today, we live in a society that is very divided on this issue. There are many in support of the death penalty, suggesting that it acts as a positive deterrent against future crime. There are also many
As with many other controversial opinions both groups for, and against capital punishment have valid opinions. So let's dive into the philosophy of both sides and an
Back in 1796 there were more than 10 innocent people killed and today about 4.1 percent of the people executed are innocent, and that’s more than enough. I think it is un fair to families, friends and the defendant to have their life taken if they are not guilty, If the law officials cannot prove whether or not the defendant is guilty then the death penalty should be abolished. Now on the other side, executing someone who is actually guilty; I do not support this either. I strongly believe that someone who commits a capital crime and has received the death penalty deserves to suffer for the rest of their life. Democratic leaders will be the ones to change the death penalty.
In George Washington’s Farewell Address, he warned against the danger of political parties to American democracy. However, for better or worse, political parties are linkage institutions that dominate our politics and election system. Many Americans define their political identity and views by their membership in a political party-generally Republican or Democrat. These two parties capture the vote of the majority of American voters, however the influence of third parties should not be discounted. The Green Party was founded in 2001 and is based around social justice and environmentalism.
The debate on abortion is should be legal or illegal. Conservatives say that abortion should be illegal because it is unethical. Liberals say that it should be legal and that it is the mother choice. The history of abortion stated with the famous court case Roe v Wade. In 1973 Roe v Wade ruled unconstitutional a state law that banned abortions except to save the life of the mother.
For the last couple of years, americans have been deeply polarized over the issue of abortion. They debate has been cast in terms of “ pro-life” views and “pro-choice” views. The legality of abortion was confirmed in 1973 when the United States Supreme Court struck down a Texas
A study in 2014 by the National Academy of Sciences showed that 4.1% of defendants sentenced to death are innocent. That’s means 1 in 25 people are innocent and are sent to death. The exact number of those wrongfully accused and executed remain unknown but those who were found to be innocent were already executed. Many after being accused of a crime are not given the chance to prove they were innocent, once convicted there is little effort into changing the verdict. After being wrongfully executed, there is no compensation for the victim’s family and they are left to mourn the loss of a loved
Abortion is a very sensitive issue. Many people are constantly debating whether or not abortion should be allowed or not. Some people think abortion is very bad and that it should not be allowed at all. They think abortion is like committing murder as it is killing the human fetus. Others feel that the parents should have the right to choose and it is not murder until the baby is born.
The Death Penalty, loss of life due to previous crimes and actions, is believed by some to be extremely costly, inhumane, and cruel unlike some others whom believe it is just, right, and provides closure. The Death Penalty is not a quick and easy process. Most who get sentenced to deaths row wait years for their ultimate punishment of death. Some believe that it is not right to punish and kill a human for actions they have done because, they believe that the inmate should have another chance. Then others believe that it is right to punish someone for their actions especially if their actions involve killing another or multiple humans.
Abortion Abortion is one of the most talked about issues right now. Everyone seems to have an opinion, a strong one. This is still a debate, even though in 1973, the Supreme Court ruled that the procedure is a fundamental right in the case Roe v. Wade (Abortion ProCon.org, 1). Abortion is the ending of a pregnancy before you have gone full term, which means that the embryo cannot survive on its own.
Death Penalty According to the 2010 Gallup Poll, 64% of the United State of America are supporting the death penalty, I as an American am part of that 36% that is against it. I do not believe that we as human being should determine whether another person should live or die. A second reason that I am against the death penalty is for the reason that the accused person could be innocent and normally the accused person only has one court presentation and is only judged by the judge not a jury of their peer, and is sent to death row where they pay for a crime that they haven’t done. My final reason that i do not believe that the death penalty should count as a punishment for the American people is because, a person that has done a massive massacre shouldn’t just be able to leave the world just like that without paying and suffering for what they have done, Or should the death punishment continue as it is for it has a great benefit to us as citizens of the United States.
Is the Death Penalty Doing More Harm Than Good? Is the death penalty waisting rehabilitated criminals by executing them? In January of 2016, there were 2,943 death row inmates, that's more about 1,440 more people that died on the prison system, endure long, cruel wait times, and each and every one of them cost taxpayers thousands of dollars. In 2011 the average gap between sentencing, and execution was 16.5 years, some convicts won't make it to the execution chamber, because they die of natural causes first.
Capital Punishment is the death penalty for those who commit murder. The thought behind this punishment is a life for a life. There has been debate on if the death penalty is right or wrong. Some poeple want the death penalty to be illegal while others argue it is needed to deter crime. There are many valid arguments regarding the death penalty.
First off, 138 men and women have been released from death row, including some just minutes before being executed. The National Academy of Science has said that 1 in 25 people who are executed, turn out to be innocent. While 4.1% of all convictions, turn out to be false convictions. When 4.1% of the time, you don’t convict the correct person, the chances of executing someone who didn’t do anything wrong, greatly increases. For example, over a dozen other people who have been executed, have very strong cases for innocence.
