Is There Something Wrong With United States’ Military Spending?
The debate on whether the United States is spending too much or too little on the military has been going on for several years now with no ending in sight. Some background knowledge on this topic is that since 2007, the U.S. has spent at least 600 billion dollars on the military with highs of over 700 billion in 2010 and 2011. The citizens of the United States are still divided on whether there is too much or too little being spent on the military. Americans were surveyed in 2014, and according to Americans Remain Divided on Military Spending, 37% say too much, 28% say too little, and 45% say just the right amount is being spent on the military. Americans who believe that the

Over half of democrats, surveyed in 2014, believe the U.S. spends too much on defense whereas 49% of Republicans express that the U.S. spends too little. Liberals are almost equally divided between too much, about right and too little when it comes to spending. At the global level, about three quarters of the scholars of international relations, surveyed by the Washington Post in 2014, believe that the United States spends too much on the military while only 5% say too little. One leading scholar, John Mearsheimer, thinks that reducing military spending will eliminate arms races between the U.S. and other powerful nations and will not affect the United States’ national …show more content…
With the current threat of ISIS, the United States need to be on our toes in case an attack happens. The higher military spending keeps the U.S. prepared and not surprised about an attack like 9/11. Other threats such as the small rogue nations of Iran and North Korea. Iran is under the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Treaty but still seeks to get more nuclear weapons. “Iran also has developed the largest ballistic missile force in the Middle East” (Bucci) and poses a threat to regional countries, US allies as well as the United States. North Korea who did sign NPT at first, withdrew and is building up its nuclear weapons and military. North Korea claims it hit the U.S. with its nuclear weapons, which puts some Americans at
Military spending is also know as a defense budget, the amount of financial resources dedicated by a nation to raise and maintain a country. Since WWII there has been lots of fluctuation of how much the military spends. As we go from president to president we can see constant changes in how much our country spends on the military. In the year 2000 the gross budget of spending was cut to its lowest since 1939. Since then the military has been weaker than it
The United States should scale back on military spending. The United States spends the most on the military than any other nation. However, there is a significant difference between the defense budget and the military budget. The government should be focused on the actual defense of the United States, rather than its implementation of military bases around the world and engaging in conflicts of other nations.
War is complicated. The reason people go to war is never black and white. To me, there is no way to have a complete yes or no opinion as to if the United States should ever go to war. When I think of all the reasons that we as a nation have gone to war, some make more sense than others, but you have to wonder if every time we have initiated a war the cost was really worth what we were fighting for. Was the loss of numerous American lives worth it?
NASA’s funds should not be cut because of its direct impact in our daily lives, the economy and reputation of NASA. As mentioned previously by President John F. Kennedy, “No single space project in this period will be more impressive to mankind, or more important for the long-range exploration of space; and none will be so difficult or expensive to accomplish.” Even though the U.S. government is in the midst of a financial crisis, they need to look at the bigger goal. If the government does not increase NASA’s funds, the superpower could lose its status as a leading technological hub and the debts would keep piling on. As a result, the U.S. would fall behind other competitors such as Russia, China and India who have the same goal as NASA.
It brings peoples morals down; it is depressing to think about war, imagine how depressing it is to be a soldier fighting for his country in a war or a family member or a friend. Whatever the case may be, all Americans are affected by the wars America is involved in. These issues are only a few of the many causes of decline of the Western Roman Empire that also apply to the United States. The United States has to open their eyes and see the many resemblances this country has with the Roman Empire. The United States must acknowledge how many of the causes of decline of the Roman Empire are happening in this country.
Government funding of NASA On July 29, 1958, the United States government found the National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA beat the Soviet Union in the space race. President JFK gave them the challenge of sending a man on the moon and return him home safely, this challenge not only provided motivation, but united the country for a common goal. Over the years NASA has been a crucial part of our lives and gave us things like mass communication, satellite entertainment, and most importantly, knowledge of what surrounds us. Lately, the government is refusing to raise the budget for NASA, so NASA has had to shut down programs like the space shuttle program prematurely. The government should raise the funding of the space program because NASA gives us access to knowledge, biological studies, and a goal that unites the country.
I 've had many family members in the military at least one member in each branch of the military. There are some bad things about the military that might happen, which are 300 thousand and rising numbers of military veterans on the streets, why should the one that protected this country live on the streets? People that get sent to prisons get a place to sleep, but our veterans don 't? There are 1.4 Million veterans are at risk of becoming homeless plus there are 460,000 veterans suffer from post- traumatic stress disorder (ptsd). Nearly 8000 veterans die from their own hands every year, so about 22 veterans die every day by their own hands.

People really underestimate the military but they shouldn ' t this is an important topic because people are rude to the military and they should not because they protect us from danger. The military are just people like you and me some with families and some without but if they are treated bad then everyone should be treated bad. The military is very important and people treat them really bad but they help us. First of all 72% of people think the military are bad but the reason for this is because they kill to protect us not just to kill and after they do feel bad but it has to be done.
People just need to support the military and to support the actions of the military. If they do this then the US will continue to have the most powerful military in the world, and if they have the most powerful military in the world and the children of tomorrow will have the freedom that they deserve. The military protects us everyday. It’s time for the people of America to give back to our great military. Mandatory military service will bankrupt to U.S. and send her into a state of crisis and people don’t have the money to donate or give to a new tax.
To train, equip, and maintain one American soldier in Iraq or Afghanistan for just one year costs a cool million dollars. Meanwhile, according to 2010 census figures, the number of Americans falling below the poverty line has swollen to one in every seven" . There are some fields has high priority need lots care such as building schools, hospitals, roads …ect. Welfare of the citizens and the elimination of unemployment must be a priority for any President of the United States. The citizen's rights are enjoying equality and there must be accountability in Spending the government funds.
Can nuclear weapons destroy the entire humanity? Are nuclear weapons important for the international peace? Should nuclear weapons be banned? These questions are very relevant, because many people think that nuclear weapons are the most important problem of the modern world. They think that this weapon of mass destruction can instantly ruin the planet and kill all life on the planet.
The decision to cut down the expenditure means reduction in number of bases and corresponding slice in funding, hence, increasing the friction between the states to have a base in their state. • It is also less likely that the funds diverted from military expenditure immediately produce equivalent economic activity and returns in other forms thereby, hampering the economy. According to an article by Business Insider, immediate slashing of expenditure is sure going to be a problem to its economy. So, it suggests continuing spending the diverted budget so that fairly equivalent economic activity continues without impacting the number of jobs.
While it does add to our military offense and defense, it is a great deterrent for the United States and our allies'
