Review of Health Promotion Literature Health is a human right that people take for granted. Health promotion plays a critical role in improving the society’s overall health and awareness of health. How well patients are educated about their general health and how they can avoid their disease from becoming more severe makes the care giver’s job easier. “Building a competent health promotion workforce with the necessary knowledge and skills to develop, implement and evaluate health promotion policies and practice is fundamental to mainstreaming and sustaining health promotion action” (Environmental & Occupational Health, 2014). Health Promotion Defined Health promotion is a process that extends throughout a life span. Studies have shown that a person’s health can be affected by the health practices of the mother, therefore health promotion should start before birth and extends throughout one’s life. World Health Organization defined health promotion as “the process of enabling people to increase control over their health and its determinants, and thereby improve their health”.
