People lived in constant anxiety of America falling to Communist control. The fear of infiltration rose when Mao Zedong led Communists to take control of China as well as the Soviets detonating the atomic bomb. This caused the anxiety and fear to increase because even some American Scientists didn’t believe that the Soviets had the expertise to do so. American citizens began to believe that communist spies had been able to steal American technology. The detonation of the bomb started drills throughout America.
One of the tactics a totalitarian government will use to control their society even to this day is restricting and censoring almost everything in the society. First, In the story of "1984" the party is always spying on everyone by using the tele screens so they can watch and hear everything happening in Oceania. This is like today with the NSA always looking and tapping into our phones meaning that they will always know what is happening in our lives, some countries use this to keep us safe but other countries use this to restrict citizens from their human rights. Another tactic a totalitarian government will use is the use of political rhetoric. The party in the novel "1984" use words like CAN YOU FILL IN WORDS HERE WITH EMPTY RHETORIC PLZ.
First off, as mention before, the treatment of the scientists in the Soviet Union were horrendous in nice terms. It is said that any scientist that was to go against Stalin’s thinking would be sentenced to punishments such as labor camps and prison, and sometimes even death (Kremenstov 10). Secondly, the way the Soviets went about their war propaganda to their citizens was completely wrong. Unlike the United States defensive approach, the Soviet’s stressed the importance of the nuclear and space race for hostile and aggressive reasons, such as destroying capitalism and the west completely (Kennon). There were a couple of different reasons nuclear propaganda was not too successful in the Soviet Union.
I believe that depending on the state of the crime, the person should be imprisoned. However, Philip Grosser, who was imprisoned because he was opposed to fight in the war, was the only prisoner who shouldn’t have gone to prison. Morton Sobell and Robert Lipscomb had done wrongful acts, which got them imprisoned. In fact, Morton Sobell was a spy for the Soviet Union and gave military secrets to them. According to his biography, Sobell believed that he was helping because by giving the Soviet Union the U.S military secrets, he was giving them a chance to be defensive in case of an attack.
In severe circumstances, murder or brutal force was even used. He ordered the secret police to intimidate and spy on civilians. The secret police were also able to monitor telephone lines, read letters, and plant informers everywhere. Children would even tell authorities about remarks made about Stalin at home. Stalin also controlled every aspect of the education system and controlled the minds of the young people through Indoctrination.
They called him innocent and they hinted at an assassination conspiracy that involved the United States government and possibly the military. The FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover was always trying to catch Dr. King doing something wrong. He thought Dr. King was under the communist’s influence. For the last six years of Dr. King’s life, he was always under constant wiretapping and harassed by the FBI before his death, Dr. King was also monitored by United States military intelligence. They may have been tasked to watch Dr. King after he denounced the Vietnam War in 1967.
Arthur Miller based his piece entitled “the Crucible” on the Terror Campaign that was led by the United States to demonize USSR and other Countries who are exercising communism during the Cold war. Religion affects every part of life, but it is the religion where there are constrictions that leads to the difficulty of managing emotions such as rage, jealousy, or resentment that had led to interpersonal arguments and grudges over property, religious offices, and sexual behaviour that have generated to rise underneath the theocratic surface. These had caused a great pressure that was combined with fear about supernatural forces, resulted to a mania of the witch trials. 250 years ago, things like this has been happening for years, The Crucible was just a manifestation of McCarthyism during the Cold War. It gives us the emphasis of looking back in the past so that we will know the mistakes that had been occurring due to the misjudgement of authorities and to ensure that it does not happen again..
For example, he raised “hush money” for the burglars, he destroyed evidence, fired uncooperative staff members. He even tried to get the FBI to stop the investigation of the crime. Some of Nixon’s aides testified before a grand jury about the president’s crimes. They also testified that Nixon had secretly taped every conversation that took place in the Oval Office. All the prosecutors needed was to get their hands on those tapes.
Hitler tried to do these experiments at every concentration camp, that he possibly could. The most unliked of all the experiments was done on twins, and gypsies. They did the ideological experiments, mainly on gypsies. They were trying to figure out how the different “races” reacted to the experiments done on them. This personally I thought was the horrific out of all of them.
McCarthyism was what adherents agreed it was an essential to eliminate the danger of American. McCarthyism. McCarthyism was used to eliminate the danger of American communism because people believed Soviet puppets might subvert the government, steal official secrets, and sabotage the army. By late 1950 's, many men and women had lost their jobs, have been deported, or placed in jail. McCarthyism was powerful because different agencies and individuals took a part of the process.
