It is a series of two pencil sketches, whereas all Maria’s work is composed of different paintings, ‘Dancing Umbrella’ being one of them (Image C). I only used her theme for inspiration, not her style and techniques as she used painting techniques and I used sketching. The reason being that sketching is more fine and delicate and it captures detail in a magnificent way; whereas Maria’s painting techniques contributes to the child like theme throughout her work. My series of art pieces is centred on the purity and true serenity of children. Purity is the freedom from adulteration and contamination. The virtues of society is composed of corrupted minds and souls of poor quality and low standard values. We are taught to learn how to develop a mature state of mind and to grow into adulthood as we become older. Society’s values are passed on to us as children. Children are taught the principles and standards of behaviour by adolescents in order to judge what is important in life. I believe though that the beauty of children’s purity and innocence is taken advantage of, and that their immaculacy is abused by the people of mature age and the disgusting things of this world. In both pieces the children with the sad expressions is a symbol that the purity in this world is being suppressed and abused by the sinful, immoral acts of this world. The motive behind my art work is to encourage people to treasure and cherish purity and not to destroy and perish
