Perhaps one of the most difficult decisions I’ve had to make in my life so far was whether to not to go on a mission for my church. This decision was about more than choosing love over religion, but about what it would mean for my life. Taking the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) has been a great opportunity for me. After taking the MBTI I learned that I am an ENFJ, this is something that has helped understand more about myself and major decisions I have made in the past; such as not going on a mission or not going to a four year college. I have learned not only what these traits mean, but in what circumstances they are used; like the fact that shadow, or opposite, traits tend to emerge in highly stressful situations.
In The Joy Luck Club, Lindo Jong encounters the biggest cultural conflict out of all the mothers. While she is still proud of her Chinese heritage, she recognises her own American characteristics after being treated as a foreigner when she returned to China. To her horror, Lindo realises that she has sacrificed much of her Chinese traits after staying in America. Lindo’s actions mirror Chinese beliefs, with the way she submits her happiness for the sake of filial obligations and how she based success on her family. In contrast, Lindo’s self-empowered attitude and competitive spirit reflect American beliefs of individualism.
Recently I took the Myers-Briggs Personality Test, I was giver the result of ISTJ (Introverted Sensing Thinking Judging) (Jung Typology Test). The result given to me is something that I would agree with. The careers that were given to me through the test ,however, is something I would not agree with. Things such as Store Manager and Dental Assistant are careers I could not picture myself doing.
Having done prior assessments and analyzed only strengthens the argument that I possess the attributes of the Enterprising, Conventional, and Social themes based on the skills and values defining them. Last semester I was able to complete the Myer Briggs Assessment to find that I am an ENTJ personality type. The assessment indicated I possess the personality type described as “Extraverted Thinking with Introverted Intuition” similar to the SII Assessment. Life experience I’ve had that included the skills detailed in Enterprising, Conventional, and Social themes provided information allowing me to concur with the findings of this assessment. The occupation themes and interest do not surprise me because I have researched or worked in similar positions or concentrations.
Once completing multiple personality tests; thus I was finally able to confirm ESTJ as my personality type. Since I was getting unsuited suggestions of career choices, I retook the test until ESTJ was able to fit more of my interests and viewpoints. The 16 Personalities Test results gave me a more detailed description of who I am and insight on my personality traits. It has helped me figure out aspects that can help me get a better understanding of myself.
A. I prefer to focus my attention on my inner world of thoughts. On my Jung Typology Test I received 75 percent introversion. In class I choose very clearly introverted. I am an introvert because I am drained in social situations. I prefer to interact with a few close friends.
According to Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell archetype is a recurring pattern of images, situations, or symbols, found in the mythology, religion, art, and dreams of cultures around the world. There are many different types of archetypes. The lover archetype is one of them. This archetype governs all kind of love from parental love, to friendship, to spiritual love. These archetypes are often known as partner, friends, intimate, sensualist, enthusiast, or a team builder.
Many say that your enemies define you; yet, I believe that what truly defines you is your way of thinking; your perspective of things and your philosophy. However, even when men try to establish order within their inner selves in the midst of a relentless chaos by building the foundations of their principals, they can sometimes clash with the welfare of others. Therefore, I would ponder the possibility of ending my life with dignity in the face of a terminal disease for the sake of my loved ones, even if it means a direct altercation with my psyche and my morality. Carl Jung’s archetypes explain that the psyche is fragmented in two, the Self and the Shadow, which must harmonically coexist; this component of Jungian psychology deeply relates to one’s inner conflict when in the face of a predicament, just like the one exposed previously. In truth, finding said balance is imperative and that is why I believe that no yielding to the illness would the be the better decision in accord to my principles.
