Throughout the 20th century, more than 140 million people were killed in wars. Why was this? Sacrifice of a war of the gods or the intersection of different meanings: culture, religion and ideology? The United Nations was created in 1945 with an intent to stop wars between the great powers: USA, USSR, UK, China and France. Today, conflicts are increasing in Europe between the Western world and Russia, in the South Pacific region between the Western world and China and in the Middle East between the Islamic world and the Western world. War historians, politicians and journalists have argued for decades about when and where a Third World War will start. In the modern world, the first armed conflict of civilizations appeared in the Middle East in the territories of Syria and Iraq.
