Yellowstone National Park is an ancient land located in the western United States. This land was built from fire and ice, and natural wonders dot the landscape. The ancient people that called it home believed that it was sacred, and the animals that call it home today roam on the open land. Yellowstone’s formation began 66 million years ago during the Cenozoic era. Below Yellowstone’s surface lies molten rock that formed the land that is Yellowstone today (Nat'l Park Service U.S Dept. of the Interior). 16.5 million years ago repeated volcanic eruptions moved the parks tectonic plate over a shallow body of magma. This move of the tectonic plate is what causes many of the hydrothermal features in Yellowstone. (Nat'l Park Service U.S Dept. of

Traveling over 1,500 miles, through what would become the four states of Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, and finally Montana, the fugitive Nez Perce kept moving – they were determined to reach safety for themselves and their families. Their long journey took them through the newly established Yellowstone National Park where they encountered several groups of tourists. The journey lasted more than three months, across mountains, rivers, and prairies. The U.S. Army, commanded by General Oliver O. Howard, pursued them most of the way until Colonel Nelson A. Miles took over the chase. There were many battles -- White Bird Canyon, Clearwater, Big Hole, Camas Meadows, and Canyon Creek.

I hope the federal government makes the right decision on making this a National Park. Come on, it would be amazingly exciting, and it would bring more money to our country if you thought about it. The waterfalls that led water downstream, rock features that created beautiful architecture across the horizons, the miles of beautiful landscapes with different heights and sights to see , and the amazing plants and various types of species that roamed and traveled the lands of Yosemite are truly what make this national park as grand and appealing as it is. “Yosemite Park is a place of rest, a refuge from the roar and dust and weary, nervous, wasting, work of the lowlands, in which one gains the advantages of both solitude and society. Nowhere will you find more company of a soothing peace-be-still kind” (John of the Mountains: The Unpublished Journals of John Muir 350). This quote shows that John Muir is describing Yosemite as a place of rest and a refuge from everything but peace and comfort. The wondrous lands of Yosemite go on for 1,169 square miles(Yosemite National Park 6).

Yellowstone is located in the middle of the North American Plate. In addition, both places have different types of crust. Hawaii has oceanic crust; Yellowstone has continental crust. This means that oceanic crust is lower in the ground. Continental crust is higher then oceanic crust.
The ancient geology is very similar in the two places, but very different in the size. To start off, Yellowstone has and had a huge caldara under the park that erupted a long time ago. Also, one of the big Hawaii islands volcano erupted over 4,500 years ago. The oldest volcano is over 500,000 years old.

Noticeable widening within the inner gorges supports this idea. These dams eroded catastrophically soon after formation, as evidenced by the presence of relatively small isolated depositionally-intact aggraded delta deposits within the tributary drainages of the eastern and central Grand Canyon. Also, it was found out that due to the presence of lava-dam remnants near the present level of the Colorado River that the canyon has undergone negligible deepening since the formation of the dams. Hence, no appreciable erosion has occurred in the canyon within a 1.8 million year
