Victor has lost all touch with the world due to his work and twisted experiments. Society refuses to accept those who are different from everyone else, he is secluded, and he seems to have “lost all soul or sensation but for this one pursuit” (Shelley 38). Victor is isolated from others through his ungodly pursuit of creating artificial life. His work is frowned upon when he exhibits his experiments.
However, Victors reckless and unthoughtful actions pushes the monster into a state of rage and hatred that overrides his ability to stop from exacting revenge on Victor. Victor initially creates the monster thinking that it will be an amazing creature, built from the best human body parts Victor could procure. After he views the outcome of his work he is repulsed by it and abandons it, hoping that it would cease to exist. Not only did the monster survive, but it learned to speak, write, and read. After reading the book Paradise Lost, the monster thinks of its own situation and states the following:
In the novel Frankenstein, both Victor Frankenstein and his monster live tragic lives. Between the death of Victor’s loved ones and the monster having nobody to love him in the first place, it becomes difficult to decide who really deserves the most pity. Although it may seem that victor lost more, his misery does not compare to that of the monster’s. Because the monster was ridiculed by society for his appearance and had no one to connect to, the monster deserves the most pity.
I believe most of us are proud of our succeed in doing what people have not done before even though the results are not good as we expected. However, as the inventor of the Creature, Victor already does an impossible thing. Instead of being satisfied with his creature, he is disappointed because of its ugly appearance. Obviously, Victor’s attitude indirectly affects to the Creature personalities.
When the Creature is first created Victor Frankenstein is disgusted and explains that “breathless horror and disgust filled his heart”(Ch. V; pg 51). The hard work put into this creature did not receive the sense of relief and accomplishment it deserved from Victor as its creator. Instead, without even knowing or learning about the Creature, Victor is filled with hatred demonstrating the malice in humanity. In addition, the Creature presents itself to the cottagers in hopes of acceptance and welcome.
Victor said that the creature was “more hideous than belongs to humanity” and called him a “filthy demon” (Shelley 60). The creation’s creator felt that the creature was too ugly to exist in the presence of human kind. When a creator criticizes his creation in such a way, it afflicts the creature and pesters at his soul. By neglecting and shunning people with socially unacceptable appearances of behaviors, mass murders are created.
I had desired it with an ardour that far exceeded moderation; but now that I had finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart” (42). Shelley uses the words “horror” and “disgust” to express Frankenstein’s regret. At first, Victor “desired” to make the monster with extreme “ardour,” or passion, which consumed him and damaged his “health.” The damage inflicted to Frankenstein is both physical and mental, as his physical “health” is diminished and the “dream vanished,” causing “disgust to fill his heart,” a fact which is only actually true in Victor’s
Why did you form a monster so hideous that even you turned from me in disgust? God, in pity, made man beautiful and alluring, after his own image; but my form is a filthy type of yours, more horrid even from the very resemblance. Satan had his companions, fellow devils, to admire and encourage him, but I am solitary and abhorred” (155). Goodness is all lost when the creature, driven by his desire for revenge, kills those dear to Frankenstein, in which the creation believes will therapeutically heal his personal recounting the pain of the mistreatment over the years. Even in the creation’s acts of kindness towards the family, because of the family’s reaction to the creature, this allows Shelly to reinforce that man is both ‘so virtuous and magnificent’, but also ‘vicious and base’.
One can also see the destructive impact of knowledge through the perspective of the creature. This is evident in that as he reads books and learns how different he is from humanity, he feels miserable and regrets being created. He becomes melancholic first, then vengeful towards his creator because he leads a cursed existence. He, the offspring of Victor’s knowledge, then destroys Victor’s life. His is the middle box, the 3rd frame, and the reader can see his side of the story, how knowledge has impacted him negatively through his eyes.
Ambition is what drives one to achieve their goal; this can ultimately cause a result that is beneficial or disastrous. In Mary Shelly’s, Frankenstein, it is Victor’s stubborn mindset that drives him insane to the point where he eventually lands himself in his grave. It originally starts when Victor becomes ambitious to search for knowledge so that he could go against nature and create a manmade creature to attain fame. The fact that Victor did not think of the consequences leads him to suffer the aftermath.

Through the main events of the book this pursuit is responsible indeed; through his quest to find out the secrets of creation, Victor Frankenstein builds and designs his monster.
People are often very intuitive, they gets feelings that motivate them to make decisions regardless of if they are morally right or not. They are able to make the right decisions, maybe not for the betterment of themselves, but for the betterment of all humans in general. He is given the choice to either create the monster he created a wife, or be tormented and undoubtedly have more of his family killed. Many ideas about the requirements of personhood have been circulating throughout Earth’s history. Many relate to religion and spirituality, and many of the others either contribute to the people v. property debate of the abolition movement or the contemporary pro-life v. pro-choice debates. This paper will address a few of these proposed requirements and how they specifically relate to the Monster created by Victor Frankenstein in the popular novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley in a secular and non-endorsing manner. This character will then be juxtaposed with a character of a separate work: Lucky from Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett.
Have you ever been held responsible for the tragedies caused to others? For most the answer is no, however, for some, their actions have led to the misfortune of guiltless lives. In the novel, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, because of the absence of attention and teaching, the reanimated creation Frankenstein is unstable; Victor Frankenstein is who to blame. Two events that he should be accountable for are not training his creation to know right from wrong and abounding the monster which led to the murder of innocent people. Firstly, Shelley uses conflict of “human” versus nature to demonstrate the major idea that Victor Frankenstein is responsible for the loss of innocent lives.
