Tabula Rasa is the theory that all individuals are born without predetermined ideas and goals. It states an individual's circumstances and experiences shape who they are. This theory can logically be applied to the creature Victor Frankenstein creates in Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein. Throughout the course of the novel the creature is torn from his innocent existence. It becomes a monster. There are many reactions that cause this transformation into a monster, such as the reaction of the Victor Frankenstein towards his creation, the reaction of the creature to the circumstances of his existence, but the most impacting cause is the reaction society has towards the creature.
