The falling of the Rand. INTRODUCTION. After a reduction of some 12% in the average value of the Rand against the US dollar during 2000, the rand shed a further 19% of its value during 2001. There have since been calls to the authorities to try stop, and even perhaps reverse, the reduction. This briefing will attempt to give a historical overview of the fall of the rand, reasons for the fall, what needs to be done and my personal life and what issues I face because of it. HISTORICAL OVERVIEW OF THE FALL OF THE RAND. I love my home but I feel it is unsafe to raise a family here and if I dint get a good paying job I won’t be able to support myself. Then I can forget about having a family of my own. I also really would love to travel overseas but our currency rate is so low that I would need to save up for so long just to get anywhere. So I feel that if we could do something about the value of the rand the problems along with it, we can solve much more. Issues like crime and poverty will become less and we would have a safer place for our children one day. CONCLUSION. In this essay I attempted to give you a historical overview of the fall of the rand, reasons for the fall, what needs to be done and my personal life and what issues I face because of it. I strongly feel that this problem cannot be solved by one man and one man alone. We should start working together as a country and facing our problems. It is not going to be easy.
