The Civil War began on April 12,1861 and ended on April 9, 1865. This four year battle had more than 50 major battles occurred during this tragic time in history. On March 6, 1862 - March 8, 1862 an important battle took place that left the Union Army with a good strategical position for the rest of the war. This battle was fought in Pea Ridge, Arkansas. This battle is known as the The Battle of Pea Ridge.
The war was not fought on Northern Territory for the majority of the war up until the end of the war. Robert E. Lee brought his army of seventy-five thousand men from Northern Virginia through Shenandoah Valley to Pennsylvania. The South was soon detected by the Union. When the Union caught up to them there were ninety-five thousand of them. That 's when the fighting broke out between them on July 1.

Meade, was staying in the town of Gettysburg. The battle went on to last until July 3rd, when that night General Lee pulled his forces out of Gettysburg and pushed back to Virginia.

On Friday, April 12, 1861, at 4:30 a.m., Confederate batteries opened fire on Fort Sumter and continued for 34 hours.

While the Battle at Fort Sumter was the initial battle that signified the beginning of the Civil War, The First Battle of Bull Run, or the Battle of Manassas was the first major battle and took place on July 21, 1861. On July 2, 1863, which was the second day of fighting at Gettysburg, we attacked Wilcox’s Alabama Brigade under General Winfield Hancock’s orders. There were 5 to 1 odds against us. We kept the Confederates off of Cemetery Ridge. About 215 people died, including our commander Colonel William Colvill, and our flag fell 5 times. We were reinforced by Company F the next day.
The Battle of Chickamauga initiated after Major General William Rosecrans was coming off his successful Tullahoma Campaign, with the Army of the Cumberland, in the summer of 1863. Rosecrans had outmaneuvered the Confederate Army of the Tennessee, under General Braxton Bragg, in Murfreesboro Tennessee, forcing him to move into Chattanooga this maneuvering costed him around 500 troops. President Lincoln was persistent to make Rosecrans move into Chattanooga because of the pivotal role the city had on the South. Chattanooga had important rail lines leading to Nashville, Knoxville, and even as south as Atlanta carrying their iron resource.
