The Scholar Biography: Proseminar For Doctoral

An individual who deserves to win the Courage to Care award is Gilberto Bosques Saldivar. He is a Mexican diplomat nominated for the award for his actions during World War 2. World War 2 is known as the major event of when Adolf Hitler invaded and over ran most of Europe and North Africa in 1939-1945. During the invasion, Jews were being deported and taken into concentration camps. Saldivar’s role in this situation made a huge impact on the Jews and therefore earned his credibility to be nominated for the Courage to Care award. The following are reasons as to why Gilberto Bosques Saldivar deserves to win the award.

My history as a writer has been a bit of a struggle of slow development. From a young age I had a hard time with spelling and this is still a trouble area for me, even with the help of autocorrect. As I grew in age and as a writer my problematic area became not including enough nitty gritty details. My bad experiences that I recall would always involve the start of writing because I struggle with beginning paragraphs. Also, I tend to use the ending paragraph to just repeat myself, so overall my first and last paragraphs are usually shit. I find that I usually have more success when writing about something that I truly enjoy and struggle when talking about something I do not really care about. Occasionally some intellectuals appear in the world which introducing just an one book of them to the reading public is not enough, though taking ten or even twenty books are not too much in order to describe a real figure of the academic giant, besides they already finished over a hundred writings having a large response to the each works indeed.

Eric Foner is an american historian that grew up all his life to be what he is today. He has grown up to become a famous historian and, he knows the importance of history. This is a biography and this biography shows how Eric Foner becomes a historian. The point of the book is to demonstrate how history has greatly impacted someone 's life. Eric grew up in New York with his father who taught him all about history and its importance, he says he was his “first great teacher.” His father was a college professor who taught history to many students and says his son was his best student. Eric would later go to study physics but, eventually he graduated as a historian. If I were to explain this to someone I would say that this is a biography about a person who will become a famous historian and how history impacted his life.

He lived a very interesting life with many events in which he did many things and had lots of experience in many different subjects. When embarking on a doctoral journey, it is important to keep an open mind and realize that the journey will lead to a whole self-transformation. During each step of the doctoral process, students will learn, grow, and change. Their ideas will be reformed as they develop into critical and analytic thinkers in their new scholarly environments. The summer going into my Junior year of high school, I started volunteering at a retirement community called The Legacy down the road. I helped out by playing games with residents, talking to them, and helping with the weekly socials where we serve treats like pie and ice cream. Not many of my friends understood why I would take the time out of my day and spend it at The Legacy. My academic writing has predominantly taken place in AP English and Literature courses in high school. English 1102 is the first writing class I have taken at ISU, considering this is my first year of college. In AP English, we focused a lot on analysis and finding the theme, as well as other rhetorical devices in a wide variety of literature. In high school, I did not learn anything about APA style. The career choice of a historian is a difficult one, reading or writing papers for hours is a lot of hard work, and the career field has a low salary. "The median annual wage for historians was $52,480 in May 2012". However, the job is very enjoyable and loving to all people. Many individuals enjoy the topic of history and would love learning and research history for the rest of their lives: "Historians work in government agencies, museums, archives, historical societies, research organizations, nonprofits, and consulting firms. This biography engages and excites readers. The character, Grace Hopper, is relatable to the readers. There are not just boring rote facts about Grace Hopper, but experiences that make her more of a reality to the readers. If you were to research Grace Hopper, you would see she was famous for the code that she wrote for computers. However, this author took that research one step further and added a story to the facts. We were able to piece together Hooper’s life by all the stories Wallmark included.

The book, Biography and History by Barbara Caine, was published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2010. This work explored and discussed the complex relationship between history and biography, the changes within the field of biography over time, and acts as an essential introduction for contemporary biographers. While there are many areas that are repeated and stressed throughout the book, the main argument supports the legitimacy of biography as a field both within the field of history and in its own right.
