"Character is what you are in the dark." -Dwight Lyman Moody. I believe that this quote is saying that when everyone is looking at a character or the attention is on them it’s easy to be the heroic good guy, but it takes real strength to do the right thing when no one is looking, even if the right thing to do isn’t easy or sometimes safe. For the story and character, I’m using in this essay, I am going to have to say I disagree with the quote. In the story, “The Shadow Queen,” C.J. Redwine shows that Lorelai needs control of her emotions, patience, and careful thought to outsmart Irina.
Lorelai needs to control her emotions to overcome Irina, her biggest conflict. Lorelai finds out that Irina knows she is still alive and is hunting her. Her instinct is to run into a panic, but instead she stops to look back at the situation and find the best course of action. Then, when Irina inquires a huntsman to kill her, she panics again. After learning that the huntsman and Lorelai have grown close, Irina forces the huntsman to kill her, Lorelai becomes even more angry, knowing that Ivana is playing with her. Even when Irina is hot on her heels alongside her huntsman, Lorelai remains calm and her self-control helps her win the battle.
Secondly, Lorelai and

Lorelai offers to heal his leg but is convinced not to by Gabe after he explains that if she heals him not only with that drain her power, but Irina will know where to find them once she does. While on the journey, Lorelai gets a glimpse of the pain Gabe is feeling she aims to stop his pain. Lorelai rushes over to heal Gabe’s’ legs even despite his many attempts to get her to stop, she completes the spell, healing him. Unfortunately, Irina finds them and both Lorelai and Gabe barely escape. Lorelai used her magic to heal someone she cared about even though she knew the consequences could be
As you can tell from my examples both characters, Elie Wiesel and Atticus Finch are courageous. It may be in different ways, with Elie going through physical pain and Atticus being more of a mental/verbal challenge, but in the end, it’s all courage. Hence there is courage in both Night and To Kill A Mockingbird. Both characters knew that they were most likely going to be conquered, they had nearly no chance of overcoming their problems, yet they both put forth their full effort until the
Matt’s quest through his adventure in the House of Scorpion was to find his true identity and make Opium a better place for everyone. Through this journey, Matt maps the definition of an archetypal hero because he enters both the known and unknown worlds, gets help from numerous people, and receives a gift of compassion which he uses to make Opium a better place. Matt’s lonely early years and an inherent curious nature compel him to connect with the outside world in his call to adventure when he sees Steven, Emilia, and Maria playing outside of the small cabin that both Celia and he lived in. At that point, Matt’s curiosity overcame the strict rules set by Celia, and he broke free. Matt’s call to adventure maps one of an archetypal hero because it propels him into the cruel, unknown world of Opium.
Kara Walker Presents African American Scenes that is overlooked by many. Kara Walker also, adopts the nineteenth-century technique of silhouette cutouts, in which an artist’s makes a likeness of the sitter by tracing the shadow cast from a strong light source. The theme I am visualizing is titled Silhouette Queen by Kara Walker. Walker expresses multiple topics and themes. She is also, most well known for her work with silhouettes, where she has room sized scenes of cut-paper figures exploring America’s tension surrounding race and gender.
The quote "Character is what you are in the dark." by Dwight Lyman Moody means to me that people are kept to themselves and leave it to themselves. This quotation applies to the short story, "Lather and Nothing Else," by Hernando Tellez, because the whole time the barber was shaving for the captain he didn't tell the barber anything he was feeling or thinking. He just kept it all to himself while helping his enemy, he avoided telling the captain how he felt, and he pretended to stay calm the whole
Enchantress from the Stars was a story of many themes, but the most impotrant theme was bravery. Bravery is one of the main themes that is in this novel. Any character that wants to survive, needs bravery. Also, brvaery is needed for the characters not to be self centered, but to take a chance and help someone else.. There is many examples of this found in Enchantress from the Stars.
She looked back at Luna who was crying by herself; seeing her sister here, in this place of ruin, put Luna in a pit of sorrow; but even Celestia knew that immortality wasn’t everlasting. “Luna…” Celestia said, walking to her wife. “Please don’t cry. There’s something I have to do.” With tears in her eyes, Luna mustered enough courage to look at her mistress.
This quote connects to how certain anxieties can ignite, for instance, since she has murdered people and will never be able to make love anymore,

“The characters who go bad, generally, are [the] ones who desire power beyond what has been given to them. The ones who stay good accept the limitations of their unique role in society”
This was bitter irony since everyone thought Louise died from being excited to see her husband when she really died from not wanting to see him. “She thought of Leonce and the children. They were part of her life. But they need not have thought that they could possess her, body and soul. ”(Chopin 137).
There is nothing more powerful than love and in Erin Morgenstern’s fantasy novel, The Night Circus, this theme is exemplified. Love can overcome even the most powerful obstacles and barriers. Love has no boundaries, love will prevail all else, and love will save all. Morgenstern encompasses this by building powerful relationships between the characters to demonstrate mysteriousness and sacrifice. Celia sacrifices the match for love, for Marco.

What is social acceptance? Why getting socially accepted does matters so much? Rejection and acceptance are central to our lives, we tend to adjust ourselves in the society no matter it is by our own will or by force. Being socially adequate is a major thing these days. It appears that this has dependably been the situation on the grounds that fitting in with the right individuals has been an essential piece of life for a long time.
