Personal Narrative Essay One word is worth one coin, silence is worth two. This theme is the most significant in the novel The Chosen, by Chaim Potok. Reuven speaks about his experience with Danny, his friend through silence, and the difficulties they face in fact they can talk but can’t because Reb Saunders forbids Danny to speak or communicate with Reuven in any way after they’ve become best friends. This theme corresponds to my life and my personal experiences. Physically speaking is inconsequential, and silence is what speaks instead of speaking, meaning to control a person by withholding communication, choices, and experiences in growing up. The aforementioned three topics are very important and have to be understood because everyone …show more content…
A fool is someone who doesn’t accept silence, not knowing that silence could lead to better choices. A wise man is someone who looks into their soul in silence and thinks further about the outcomes of a choice. The choice is an impactful theme in The Chosen because during the time Reuven and Danny wouldn’t talk this encouraged them to focus on their choices, what is important is to think about the choices people want to make. For example, Danny started to accept running rats through mazes and Reuven’s grades were affected by the silence between their friendship, soon he started to get over the silence between them and work on his collage work. I have had experience with different people and I found out that I should think before I make choices. For example, ask about that person before I consider them my friend. In the novel Reb Saunders wanted Danny to find his own choices by silence and speak to his soul, not to him. For me, during the time I didn’t speak to her, I found out that she wasn’t the right choice and I found out that the person I was avoiding and didn’t like was the true friend. So farfriend so far me and Belqes are very close and we both had friendship difficulties to become friends. Making choices is part of growing …show more content…
His Dad raised him in silence because he wants Danny to look into his soul for answers and to think about his choices. I can relate to that because I don’t really talk to my father because he is at work most of the time and I don’t see him until the weekends so I also face silence with my father and friend Bashier. I have no idea how long the silence between me and Bashier will stay but I feel like exploding one day and saying everything I wanted to say this entire time of being silent and how I started to act like a grown-up girl now because my father wants to see me as a grown-up and take care of myself without needing anyone. The seconds, days, months, and years are passing and I am still in the silence of the world with my father and friend. I want to go back and explain what I’ve learned through the silence with Bashier and the choices I made with my father and I want to know how she is doing in school just like Reuven felt about asking Danny if he started to like Experimental Psychology with Professor
In The Chosen by Chaim Potok large amounts of trust are displayed by Mr. Malter, Billy, and Reb Saunders. Mr. Malter gives his son, Reuven, many freedoms a parent otherwise would not. For instance he allowed his son to befriend a boy from a completely different section of their religion. Not only does he allow the friendship, but he strongly encouraged it. Billy, a young boy, who unluckily turned blind due to an accident places trust in everyone around him.
After the boys become friends Reuven showed kindness to Danny by listening to him and his struggles, talking to him, and spending time with him. Reuven proves a true and compassionate
“The Raging Silence” is an article about a series of events that were happening in The city of Philadelphia. Matthew Teague, the author, tells about the underlying issues that had such a debilitating effect of the shooting on the community. It discusses the history of gun and gang violence in the community and how it causes a rift between them and law enforcement. Thought the article Matthew Teague argued about member of the community having easy access to guns that result to a unsafe environment.
Importance of Wisdom In Chaim Potok’s The Chosen, many characters display their wisdom, especially Reb Saunders, Mr. Malter, and Mr. Galanter. Reb Saunders, Danny’s father, shows great wisdom when he must react to other people’s opinions and views. Mr. Malter, who has the same job and position as Reb Saunders but studies a different view of the religion, displays the same kind of wisdom towards other religions or beliefs contradictory to his. Mr. Galanter, the baseball coach of Mr. Malter’s son, Reuven, makes wise choices in directing and encouraging his team to work hard and play well.
He’s gonna track down his dad and spend some quality time with him. So they can get to know each other again”(de la Peña 5). Danny is beginning to dispute his father's absence because he wants him back in his life. Danny needs access to his father so that he may convey all of life's lessons and let him feel more of his love. Danny may find it difficult to accept this situation because he loved his father's company and became connected to him while still in his life.
Joy Kogawa's Obasan is a representation of the silence Japanese Canadians experience specifically in the past as they have been repressed from telling the stories of the internment camps in Canada due to the government's pressure to not talk about what happened to them, leading to the negative and generational consequences of silence as a trauma response. In addition to showing how Japanese Canadians have covered up traumatic events through silence. Obasan also demonstrates how silence has not solved anything, but has made the traumatic events worse, and that healing can only occur when people begin to speak about them. Silence is shown by the family secret about Namois's mother being absent, as well as Namoi never wanting to tell anyone about her sexual assault from an Old Man Grower, the difference between Namoi’s aunts in how they choose to be vocal or silent in their life. Finally, how Joy Kogawa herself uses Obasan as a way to use language to share her story as a Japanese Canadian.

Silence is a powerful word with great meaning for humans of all cultures. Silence is associated with great wisdom and understanding, or correlated with a failure of humanity, as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. famously noted “in the end we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” However, silence is also a powerful weapon that has been used to suppress the voices and rights of minority groups in America for generations. In Under the Feet of Jesus by Viramontes, silent speech is emphasized in all the characters as they struggle to survive under harsh conditions as immigrants. Valdez affirms the curse of silence against minority characters in Zoot Suit, when Henry Reyna is wrongly accused of a crime with no means
In The Chosen by Chaim Potok Danny and Reuven's friendship is very important, they are always there for each other even through hard times. Friendship is not always easy and there will always be arguments and disagreements but it is worth it to have someone to talk to all the time. Chaim shows friendship as a very important part in Danny and Reuven's lives. They become close quickly after they meet and are basically inseparable. Danny and Reuven are forgiving, honest, and determined to succeed.
The movie Carved in Silence was a very provoking and eye opening documentary for me. It depicted the experience of the Chinese immigrants of Angel Island very well through the narration and the dramatic recreation. As an immigrant, the opening scene and the many stories told evoked many memories and reflections of my family 's journey and aspirations. The stories and descriptions in this documentary were very surreal because they were too hard to believe.
Silence is golden. Elie Wiesel states that “being silent means being complicit”. But that’s not true. Because there are plenty of stories where people go above and beyond the call of duty and end up making the situation worse. For example, when a group of hoodlums had approached me.
In the silence is a story that focuses on how too much time alone, in your own thoughts, changes a person forever. Jimmy’s person vs self-conflict guides him to maturity and helps him become a real man. Because Jimmy faces internal conflict throughout the story he is forced to change and learn from the struggles he encounters. Person vs. Self conflict can not only occur through the feeling of loneliness but also in
By not telling his father, it causes his dad to not know the reasoning to his actions and to continue to be disappointed in Danny; this creates a strange atmosphere and energy between him and his father on the phone which is the tension of the viewpoint not being said. But that isn’t the only unspoken viewpoint in the story. The story also stated, “He pumped some change into the phone, called the number at Tess’s uncle’s house. He was going to tell her about the conversation with his dad, but when she came on, telling him in this happy excited voice about a fish she’d caught that afternoon, he decided against it.” This is also an unspoken idea that has no mystery to it.
Concerning Characters Concern ranks in the top of characteristics for a true friend to have. People with this quality care more for others. The Bible says “That there should be no schism in the body: but that the members should have the same care one for another. ”(1 Corinthians 12:25).
Literacy Narrative “Nothing is said of the silence that comes to separate the boy from his parents” (Rodriguez 69”). Silence. Silence is powerful. Silence, in a dramatic movie to make someone sit on the edge of their seat wondering what is about to happen. Silence, at a funeral of a loved one to grieve for the loss.
