The story about Antigone and “Good Bye Lenin!” talks about different themes within families. In the movie, Good Bye Lenin there are a lot of examples about lying within the entire family. In Antigone, tragedy shadows an entire family and others as well. Both stories share common themes. Lying in Good Bye Lenin helps us understand tragedy in families in the story of Antigone. First is the topic about lying. There are various examples of lying in the family after Lenin’s mother is rushed to the hospital and wakes up from a long coma. Lenin begins lying to his mother after the doctor tells him that anything that triggers her can lead to a heart attack, which can lead to death. He goes to the extremes just to lie to his mother about the Berlin …show more content…
Family is an important theme with these stories. Families go through thick and thin together and the bond is incomparable. From the beginning of the movie Lenin and his sister visited their mother at the hospital. When the father left he family, the mother experienced a tragedy in her life. Although he didn’t die, him leaving was stressful for her, feeling like a tragedy. At the same time losing their mother for a moment felt like a tragedy as well. She finally comes back home and their relationship is changed …show more content…
We see in the movie how Lenin’s sister was against lying to their mother about the Berlin wall and other information. Then in the story Antigone’s sister lied saying she was part of burying her brother as well. Both sister’s in both stories lied in order to protect family. Even though both sisters were against their siblings’ ideas, they still went along with them. Consequently, in society it is common for families to lie to each other, in order to protect them from something. For example, parents lie to their kids because they believe that they can’t handle certain information. In reality, they are going to find out sooner or later. By going to school they risk their kids from finding out that certain information. What Good Bye Lenin has taught is, is that the truth eventually comes out. Even if it takes years, the truth wins. Ultimately, lying in Good Bye Lenin helps us understand tragedy in Antigone. Although they have similar themes about sacrifice, family, and tragedy the stories have different themes. The dilemmas in Good Bye Lenin helps us understand the choices Antigone made to bury her brother. Most importantly, this shows that people are willing to do anything for their families, even if it means breaking the law and
The character Antigone from the play Antigone best represents Stage 6th ,Universal Principles, of Kohlberg’s Stage Of Moral Development because she believes that individuals should have natural rights. In the play Antigone has a sister called Ismene and two brothers, Polynesis and Eteocles. Polynesis and Eteocles killed each other for the throne. Since Polynesis attacked Eteocles first Creon decided to leave Polynesis dead body in the street, so Antigone believed that Creon’s rule was unfair and it was against her natural rights so she decided to break the rule and bury her brother’s body.
As Ismene gives her advice to Antigone on whether or not she should bury their brother, Antigone disagrees with her sister's opinion and replies, “[h]e is my brother still, and yours;/ though you would have it otherwise,/ but I shall not abandon him” (Sophocles 345). Antigone decides to ignore her sisters advice, which she later reflects on when she is being sentenced by Creon, as she let her pride get the better of her by not listening to her sister. Due to her decisions, Antigone can be represented as a character who does not want to be proven wrong and doesn’t want to face the reality of others’ opinions.
Antigone: I think she leans towards humanism, from what I saw in the beginning of the play. She ignores the King’s wrath, and feels the need to bury her brother despite risking her own life. She tells Ismene that it must be done. She proceeded to Creone that she did not abide by his laws, but rather God’s laws. She believed that it was better to treat her brother, as she wanted to provide for one another, under her faith in God.
When reading Antigone, I think most readers can relate to both Antigone and Ismene and their relationship between their brothers. In addition to this, Antigone also mentions the fact about family in general and dealing with obstacle courses, with two different people, with two different minds. In my opinion, I myself have one older sibling and we both have different mindsets and seem to argue and fight a lot, though when those times come, it just builds up our relationship. In the story, I can tell that Antigone had a great, strong, bond that has been built up, and was nearly impossible to tear down.
The Importance of Family in Antigone Following one’s heart does not always mean following the law. Civil disobedience is justifiable when dealing with family. Devotion to family is significant, especially in Greek culture. The play Antigone by Sophocles, stresses the importance of family and how the disturbance of traditions may lead to conflict.
Lenin is suspicious of us in Russia as he sent 120,000 Russians to help with our relief work. I’m supervising 16,000 Russians in 900 kitchens we set up in Samara. I’m happy to say we ‘re achieving beyond our goal as Russian adults are now being fed and we’ve been supplied of a lot of grains that arrived on 6th February in Novorossiysk. A colleague of mine David Kinne was dismissed as Lenin’s CHEKA agents exploited his alcohol addiction in February 1922. I see Lenin’s motive and that is to try and hinder our work.
The sibling relationship between Antigone and her sister plays as a central theme in the work of Antigone by Sophocles. One of the central theme portrayed by Antigone and her younger sister is loyalty. Analyzing the text as a whole displays that Antigone’s younger sister does not know where her loyalty shouble be. In The text of Antigone it can be inferred that Antigone believed very strongly that her sister was a traitor for not wanting to help bury their brother.
In Sophocles’ play Antigone, Antigone is punished for burying her dead brother’s body by being buried alive. Antigone gives an emotional speech in which she laments the loss of her youth and her future of marriage and motherhood. In this speech, she employs rhetorical devices like pathos, foreshadowing and extended metaphor. In an attempt to coerce Creon to refrain from burying herself alive, Antigone utilizes the rhetorical device, pathos.
The story of Antigone by Sophocles is a story of a sister on a quest to bury her brother who was killed in combat. The new incoming king forbids such acts of burial for the brother, as he is labeled a traitor. Antigone has shown that she is a strong woman as she continues to believe in her ways of things. Even if she is told by others to stand down, she continues to hang on to her beliefs till the end. Creon who is told by his son and Teiresias is late to think about how her punishment was unreasonable that he took it too far.
Antigone is the daughter of Oedipus and Jocasta. In the beginning of the book, we find out that Antigone’s brothers have killed each other in war. One of the brothers, Polyneices is considered a traitor and Creon, the king, refuses to give him a proper burial. Antigone decides to disobey the king and give her brother a proper burial. Antigone loves the idea of a noble death and it drives her decision-making at the end of her life.
No one truly knows the purpose of life, why there is death and suffering. The purpose of life has many meaning and is different for everyone. Good people tend to suffer more because others get jealous and use violence to end the good. In the poems, “Antigone” and, “Prometheus Bound”,and the book, “Gospel of Matthew”, express why the good people suffer and what the purpose of life really is.
Good bye Lenin! At the 2003 Berlin Film Festival, Good bye Lenin! Was awarded as the Best European Film. The experts say that, this touching film was so fruitful in its introduction that it earned more cash in Germany than the Harry Potter movies did in their first month.
Over the years, people have struggled because of different ideals, however when it comes to a rebellion against a common adversary they must have something in common. Following that, all the Greek tragedy plays are related to the statement each one in its different way. For instance, in “Antigone” written by Sophocles Antigone say: “And now you can prove what you are: A true sister, or a traitor to your family”. To put another way, Antigone is asking Ismene to join her cause of rescuing their brother’s body to an honor him and go against a common enemy whit is the government. Subsequently, it can be perceive how the protagonist mind is pointing directly to challenge the government.
In ancient Greece, a common saying that all citizens had in their very core, a traditional Greek principle, was this: love your friends, and hate your enemies. This rule seems pretty straightforward and would appear easy to apply in real life. However, in the timeless play Antigone, Sophocles shows his audience a situation where this maxim does not apply. Sophocles concentrates on a complex story where the values and principles of the ancient Greek culture come into conflict. Religious or moral versus secular, family versus community, and living versus dead: all of these conflicting aspects are explored in Antigone.
Sophocles and Shakespeare created two of literature's most famous heroines Antigone and Juliet. These young woman are similar in some respects and differ in important ways. Both Antigone and Juliet is in conflict with older relatives. Antigone defies Creon because he denies burial for her slain brother similiarly Juliet defies her parents by marrying Romeo. In both plays the heroine chooses death by suicide.
