Teenage pregnancy is an important issue that causes major controversy in the safety of a young teenagers’ life. Teenage pregnancy is defined as an unintended pregnancy during adolescence (Langham, April 13, 2015). Women who become pregnant during their teenage years are at increased risk for medical complications such as premature labor, social problems, and financial issues. Children born to teenage mothers are more likely to suffer health, social, and emotional problems than children born to older mothers. (Swierzewski, October 30, 2000)

A teen mother can also experience severe depression while facing negative feedback about her pregnancy from the environment or society surrounding them. Society usually considers teenage pregnancy a social dilemma. Teenage pregnancy is viewed as a social stigma and teen parents have to bear bad reputation as the society treats them as outcasts and strangers. Another study reported that teen mothers face significant levels of stress that can lead to increased mental health concerns. In addition to higher rates in postpartum depression, teenage mothers have higher rates of depression. In addition, teenage mothers are more prone to committing suicide, as the humiliation, embarrassment, and the lack of social support can trigger depression. The effect of these pressures put on them is the inability to make the right decisions when it comes to certain situations. One of these most common situations teens find themselves in is becoming a parent especially at a young age. Teen pregnancy should be highly discouraged as it has affected the teenage mother and the baby. One cause for an adolescent pregnancy is family problems from a broken family. A teenager who has a broken family would be open to temptations because no one reminds her about the consequences of unsafe sexual intercourse. Another possible reason for teen pregnancy is financial problems. Financial problems could push a teenager into prostitution and that can soon lead to a young pregnancy. Another reason for adolescent pregnancy is having bad influential friends. A teenager can get the wrong idea or become pushed to make the wrong decision when dealing with sexual intercourse, especially when their “friends” promote your wrong
