Right after the dish breaks, Ethan said that Zeena would have to blame it on the cat. In chapter 7, Ethan blames the cat which caused Zeena to “turn her eyes to Mattie” (Wharton, chap 7). This could also mean that Zeena blames Mattie for breaking the dish and relationship. In chapter 6, Ethan gets the glue to fix the dish. Symbolically it could mean that he found a plan or a way to fix his relationship.

Therefore, this theme of belief is significant in The Rocket. In conclusion, in Ray Bradbury’s 1950 dystopian novel, The Rocket, there are two main themes. imagination, and belief in yourself.

She carefully sneaks her cat into the car, and later down the road the cat sneaks out, jumps on the drivers face, and causes them to have a wreck. These restrictions anger Marji greatly, because she wants to become an adult and attend the demonstrations right alongside her parents. Following the demonstrations, when the actual war starts, Marji’s parents take her on a vacation to Italy and Spain, for three whole weeks. This may seem to Marji as a fun vacation, but its true purpose is because the Satrapi family may never get to go on vacation again, and the war is coming and they do not want to be in Iran when it begins. Without her parents Marji would be stuck in Iran, helpless, and most likely dead from the demonstrations. Satrapi creates the motif of Marji’s parents caring about her to show how significant their actions are for Marji’s life and well being.

In the article, “Shattered Lives” by Kristin Lewis, Dania faces many challenges. One challenge that she faced was that she was part of a war and had to leave all of the things she loved behind. On page 6 the author states “They faced a devastating choice: Stay and risk death, or leave everything behind…” Another piece of text evidence is “ In september, their choice became clear. In both cases there is the impression of losing or lacking something and sadness of failure. It can be assumed that the loss of happiness is the most important issue in those two short stories. The third one, however, is mostly concentrated with pain. “Up in Michigan” is about sexual abuse, therefore it makes a subtle connection with “Hills Like White Elephants”, because both concern physical aspects of a relationship and its consequences. Jeanette 's parents mistake was that they never thought about the future and always tried to enjoy the present. She chose to move away from her parents and live with her older sister and that decision she made was the main reason why she succeeded in life.

Ethan is committed himself already to one woman named Zeena, however, Ethan does start to fall in love with another lady named Mattie, who also happens to be the cousin of Zeena. In the story, there is a scene where Mattie and Ethan were cooking and about to have dinner, when the cat knocks over Zeena 's pickle dish, all these events are very key in the symbol of the story.
