The door swings open fastly, he yells,” Get in you two!” We struggle to get in the back, being careful not to bump mom. Sam sits close to me, practically on top of me. He puts his head on the top of my shoulder. Minutes have passed and mom has not moved. I glance over to her charts where, her heart beat is listed: 90 bpm. I’m glad she is breathing ok. I feel a slight pull, which tells me that we are here. We stopped moving. We sit patiently until we are told to leave the truck. The paramedics roll mom into the double doorway. We follow until we are in a room that just has a bed and some chairs. Mom is placed in the bed. Lots of nurses shuffle into the doorway to check on her. Doing all the nurse things that they

I bolted up the stairs, skipping two steps with every stride. I burst through the door, grabbed the crash cart from the Logistics Floor, and raced to the elevator. The traumatic incident of tearing my ACL has influenced me in a positive way— it has taught me commitment, determination, and discipline. The injury caused immense difficulty in the activities that I once loved and resulted in muscle loss in my legs. With the help of physiotherapy, I was assigned various exercises to help regain my strength. Recovery was going smoothly, and after many visits to my physiotherapist, I was informed to continue in strengthening my legs to help prevent further injuries. Though I was able to play sports again, I wasn’t as confident as I was before; I feared being injured again.
Family Background: I was born on January 11, 1999 in Miami, Florida. I spent most of my early childhood with my grandparents while my parents worked. My grandfather would wake up in the morning to make sure my brother and I went to school safe and by the time we finished there was always a homemade meal waiting for us, it was something I looked forward to. In spite of us having had a language barrier and them no longer being around the influence they instilled on me is tremendous. From them I learned to have the strength to deal with other challenging obstacles life had to offer.
