Betsy Ross created the flag of the United States. Or did she really? In 1776 Betsy Ross was asked by George Washington if she can stitch the flag. So no one really knows who created the flag. There is many sources that say that Betsy Ross is the one who created the flag and others say that Betsy Ross is just a legend. The actual person who designed the flag of the United States was Francis Hopkinson. He was in the Continental Navy Board, after he served for the Navy he went into designing the flag of the United States. When he had designed the flag he had put the stars to represent that he had experienced the war. He had wrote a letter to congress that he had designed the flag of the United States. His first design of the flag had 13 “staggered” stars. Sources say that Francis Hopkinson may had designed the flag but Betsy Ross had stitched the flag. The reason she had stitched the flag was because George Washington had asked her. The way George Washington had known her was because of her husband that had passed away. She had been known for making flags because she would sell some in Pennsylvania. So as you can see they may had been the two people who created the flag.
