Another reason is that, in the story it said “She also had to admit that her thumb was weaker than a neck of a newborn chick.” This shows, she was working hard because her thumb was weak in the beginning, yet she ended up winning the competition and you can’t really win with a weak thumb so she obviously worked hard. All of this tells me, that the theme of marble champ is, hard work pays off in the
Secondly, Lupe ran home threw her backpack down with her homework and dashed straight up to her room to practice setting aside school which she loves, to practice that's surprising. Also, Lupe worked so hard her thumb became swollen with muscle showing she tried hard on every practice shot and exercise. Second reason Lupe is a role model is she is a good sport. For instance, Lupe is a good sport because the story said “ She beat her first opponent easily, and felt sorry for the girl because she didn’t have anyone to cheer for her” and
She is a good sport because, the first girl she went against and beat had no one to cheer for her so Lupe invited her to go along with her. Secondly, everyone she went against and beat she invited to go along with her so she had a bunch of people with her. Inviting people to go with you is a good sport because,it is kindof hard to invite someone you don’t know to come with you. In addition Lupe told the girl in the baseball cap she was a great player. Last but certainly not least, at the end of the day Lupe thanked her thumb and dipped her thumb in a sink full of water.
Although Raymond was not actually in the race, this was really his run. When Squeaky realizes winning isn't everything, she sees Gretchen as a person who also works hard to achieve her aspirations. She looks at her rival, thinking that perhaps she would be the type of person that would help coach Raymond. At the beginning of the story, Squeaky was totally focused on herself. She wanted to be the fastest runner and beat her rival Gretchen in the May day race.
In the story Squeaky is having to prepare for the May Day race. Squeaky always spends time training with her brother right by her side. Throughout the story Squeaky deals with a girl named Gretchen. Gretchen is a runner too but her and squeaky do not have the best relationship. Gretchen makes it clear to Squeaky that she thinks she is going to win the race.
She is a strong, loving mother who is sometimes is threatened by her own two daughters. “In real life I am a large, big-boned woman with rough, man-working hands”, in her we can see that she describes he self as a father too although she lost her husband. Mama is brutal and honest in her assessment towards her daughters. She describes Maggie as shy “She has been like this, chin on chest, eyes on ground, feet in” this happened ever since the other house burned to the ground. And Dee as she cause an even more point in rating.” Sometimes I dream a dream in witch Dee and I are suddenly brought together on a T.V.
According to the text, it says that she “practiced shooting” to get accurate aim. After she found out that she didn’t have enough power in her thumb to move the marble far enough, she decided to exercise her wrists and fingers (specifically the thumb). First, she made her wrists more powerful by doing “twenty push-ups on her fingertips”. Then, she “squeezed a rubber eraser one hundred times.” These examples illustrate how Lupe put a lot of effort into learning how to become better at sports. Furthermore, she listened to her brother’s advice on playing marbles, since he had competed with it, too.
As you might expect, it was quite a shock, and she was forced to completely relearn how to live her life twice – once while in a wheel chair, and second after she was fitted for a prosthetic. She told me she is amazed at how advanced the prosthetic was, but at first, she couldn’t do what she loved, playing competitive tennis. Through hard work, practice and time, she was able to adapt to her new appendage, and relearn to balance, sidestep and move at the explosive speed tennis
¨Sweat¨ by Zora Neale Hurtson focuses on the life of Delia Jones of whom is married to Sykes Jones. Delia, as the protagonist of the story, has gone through different events that have molded her to become the person she never intended to become. Initially she was exposed to the reader as a hard working woman, for the author states "...She was a wash-woman, and Monday morning meant a great deal to her". The following sequence of events shall demonstrate how a beautiful woman was put through disrespect and unfair treatment, faced one of her biggest fears, and an unfaithful path. To begin with, the story takes place around the early 1920s because it mentions that she has a ¨...Horse and buckboard¨.
Even though I lost I knew I had gotten into his head mentally because I didn’t see him since he ran into the locker room mad because I had embarrassed him and since he knew he was very lucky to get the win. Since I knew I had one or two more chance to wrestle Nerine in the state tournament in two weeks I felt I had brought him down a little bit mentally which I could use to my
