1. What are the three branches of classical management approach?
The three branches of the classical management approach are scientific management, administrative principles and bureaucratic organization.

2. What assumptions do they all have?
The three classical approaches all share the common assumption that people at work act in a rational manner that is primarily driven by economic concerns. Workers are expected to rationally consider opportunities made available to them and to do whatever is necessary to achieve the greatest personal monetary gain.

3. Who are the major theorists for the scientific approach?
Fredrick. W. Taylor first published The Principles of Scientific Management in 1911 and stated “The principle object of management should be to secure maximum prosperity for the employer, coupled with the maximum prosperity for the employee”. Taylor was determined to improve the productivity of people at work and studied motion study, pioneered by Frank and Lillian Gilbreth.

4. Tell me 4 major ideas within the scientific management theory?
1) Develop for every job a “science” that includes rules of motion, standardized work tools, and proper working conditions
2) Carefully select workers with the right abilities for the job
3) Carefully train workers with the right abilities for the job
4) Support workers by carefully planning
