“People say that it can’t work, black and white. Well, here, we make it work everyday. We have our disagreements, of course, but before we reach for hate, always, always we remember the Titans.” - Sheryl Yoast. The message behind this quote is very valuable and has something that everyone can learn from. For many years people have placed doubts about black and white people. They were reluctant about black and white people being able to work together, be friends, play on the same field and plenty more. When both races were combined together onto the football team, many of the players were very wearisome about it. The players felt uncomfortable about being on a team with mixed races, and the former head coach, Bill Yoast, felt very incommodious at the idea of being replaced as coach by Herman Boone, and put into the position of assistant coach. Boone had made suggestions to allow Yoast to stay. Boone offered Yoast the position to work on the staff, become a defensive coordinator, or assistant head coach. Yoast was not pleased with Boones suggestions and was hesitant to give Boone a final answer. Yoast thought long about his decision on whether he should leave his coaching career for the Titans and accept another role as head coach at different high school, or Yoast could continue working and coaching for the Titans, with his cherished players, but as an assistant coach to Boone. Yoast had decided to remain assistant head coach for the Titans. He did this in honor of his players, and also to understand what type of coach Boone is, along with how he will train the football players. This movie has highly educated me on the acts of racial prejudice and how to act like a leader. I certainly will be using my newly discovered knowledge out into the real
Although the movie does seem to want to get a point across about racism being relevant even in mainly black neighborhoods, it mostly furthers society’s institutionalized racist thoughts towards the black

1. Why was Coach Boone given the head coaching job of the Titans? At T.C Williams’ high school, Coach Boone was given the position of head coach for their football team. His racial background influenced their decision trying to get black residents to see him as a symbol of pride and respect that lacks in their community.
However after camp and as the film progresses, you see Yoast beginning to warm up to Boone and begin to realize he knows what he is doing and is capable of doing it. The two coaches eventually but aside their differences and begin working well together as coaches. Some people though in the town, still are not in favor of Boone. For example the chairman of the school board, who informs Yoast just before the semi-finals for state, that he will do whatever it takes for T.C. Williams to take a loss, allowing Yoast to be inducted into the Hall
A Smart Hero There are many important figures that fought for civil rights, but one that stood out to me was Katherine Johnson. She was one of the first African American women to work at NASA and was very intelligent. Katherine had many values but there are 3 values that she had that were very important. Katherine Johnson displays courage, determination, and excellence when she started working at NASA when racism and gender was still a big problem.
According to the original 1971 Titans, there was conflict prevalent during training camp. However, most of the disputes arose from the competitive spirit of the camp- not racial issues

It baffles me to see how these men, women, and children were treated as animals. I ask the question, how could these owner treat the slaves like this and not have any regrets or fears as to what would happen to them when they die. It also made me think on the slaves who were not born slaves that came from Africa who did know the language, customs, and how they were up rooted from their lives. I always thought that slaves were separated from their families because one of the family members did wrong. This film taught me that that was not always the reason some slave owners sold members of the slave families just because they could.
Have you ever felt like you don't belong even though it's where you are supposed to be? In the film Remember the Titans the director Boaz Yakin’s shows how the football team felt that same way. Yakins showed how they got over it throughout coming together to build a community, through unity, acceptance, and through self-fulfillment. When the titans built their sense of community all the team players showed a different side to the other teammates, as the team was becoming more accepted and the team started to feel self-fulfilled. With the Titans working on coming together during training camp a sense of community is already being established as the team must find a way to work together.
Boaz Yakin, the director of “Remember the Titans”, tell us the story of an American football team of a recently integrated high school. The team transitions from hating each other to becoming a brotherhood. A turning point in this transition is the run to Gettysburg, where coach Boone leads the boys on an early morning run before delivering a powerful speech. After this scene the boys start to respect each other, respect the coach and overcome adversity. Using visual and verbal techniques, Yakin teaches us to respect everyone no matter what race, and to be resilient in the face of adversity.
