Fourteen-year-old Emmett Till was murdered in cold blood on August 28, 1955, after he was accused of flirting with a white married proprietor of a small grocery store. What Till was accused of violating the code of conduct for an African American male in the south. After the event Roy Bryant, husband of the woman from the grocery store, and J.W. Milam, his half-brother, kidnapped Emmett Till from his home. The fourteen-year-old was beaten, maimed, and shot him in the head before drowning his body in the nearby river.
Introduction DONE On December 14, 2012, the Sandy Hook Elementary School experienced a horrific mass shooting, one of the worst in the United States. I am integrating Rational Choice Theory, Social Bonding Theory, and the Biosocial Theory in hopes to better understand the perpetrators motivations for committing such an elaborate crime. Last Tuesday, November 14th, a rented Home Depot truck hurtled into a bike lane in lower Manhattan taking the lives of eight people, many of them tourists. Five of the victims were Argentines visiting New York City for a 30th High School reunion; another victim was from Belgium. Officials have called this attack the largest terrorist attack in New York City since September 11, 2001. A twenty-nine year old man drove the rented truck on part of the West Side Highway bicycle path before turning towards Chambers Street where the rented truck hit a school bus.
The Kent State shootings—also known as the May 4th Massacre—occurred at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. The incident involved the shooting of unarmed college students by the Ohio National Guard on Monday, May 4th, 1970. The guardsmen fired sixty-seven rounds over a period of thirteen seconds, killing four students and wounding nine others, one of whom suffered permanent paralysis. Some of the students who were shot were protesting and others were just in the area on their way to class.
The Second Amendment was adopted on December 15, 1791. It allows American citizens to bear arms. We are talking about this issue because of what happened with the Parkland shooting. To this day, one of the top deadliest shootings that occurred here in the States is when Nikolas Cruz, a 19- year old had access to an AR-15.

At 14, he was bullied by a boy in school and John stabbed him, luckily the boy survived. When he was 15 he killed his first man and spent the rest of his life being in trouble with the law. It seemed wherever John went from Kansas to Texas, he always found trouble. Some say John killed 20 people over his lifetime and others say up to 40.
“Since 2013 there has been an average of one school shooting a week in the U.S., and 18 since the beginning of this year. Recently the amount of mass shooting that have happened in the United State within a short period of time have scared everyone. Many people are scared to go to the malls, movies, parks, and restaurants. “The FBI defines mass murder as murdering four or more persons during an event with no "cooling-off period" between the murders. A mass murder typically occurs in a single location where one or more people kill several others. Many acts of mass murder end with the perpetrator(s) dying by suicide or suicide by cop” (Federal Bureau of Investigation, 2005).
In his article, author Derek Thompson highlights the felonious actions that mark today’s society. Thompson’s purpose is to call lawmakers and researchers alike to take a stand against mass shootings and to stop the perpetrators. He utilizes stylistic devices as well as argumentative devices to enlighten the reader of the relationship between all of the recent shootings and their contagion. Beginning his article, Thompson lists the recent mass murders in the United States while also using figurative language, convincing the reader to agree with his argument that mass shootings are contagious.
