In society, only certain sexual crimes seem to be denounced, while many others are chosen to be ignored. The play uses the juxtaposition of Lil Bit and her grandmother in order to illustrate the way in which different circumstances that embody the same moral corruption are regarded differently within society. When recalling the union between Lil Bit’s grandparents, Lil Bit’s mother states, “you were a child bride when Big Papa came and got you” (Vogel 1678). The play compares, Lil Bit’s grandmother’s relationship with Lil Bit’s own relationship with Uncle Peck. The wording “got you” used in this scenario seems give a tone of coercion and lack of romance involved around Lil Bit’s grandparents union.

The pristine, white walls seemed to press in on George. Cold air enveloped him, making him feel on edge. The hair on his arms stood up, making his small frame appear a bit larger. George wrapped the pale, blue blanket around himself and pulled it close. Even though he was in Soledad, California, it felt pretty chilly during the winter of 1936.
A dark like night filled room full of loud people. Lennie was looking around. George stood loudly as he talked to Jim a fat tall old man. “ Well we had a good ole’ time here but we’re disappointed you must go.” Jim drunkenly slurred ” just shut up i'm going to a better farm with better pay about 35 miles north of here.”

For an example, when Lennie and George were at the Weed, Lennie touched a girl’s dress, refusing to let go of her. When Lennie refused to let go of the girl’s dress, the girl accused Lennie of rape. Another example is when Lennie is talking to Curley’s wife Lennie explains to Curley’s wife that when Lennie was playing with his pup, the pup looked like he was going to bite Lennie, so Lennie smacked him.

These are things that she hasn't even told Josh.

Page twenty-three represents the idea of women being seen as objectified, this is when Lutie describes her first time seeing Min. A quote from this section is “next to the sofa there was an overstuffed chair,” as she looked at it she realized that there was a woman sitting in it. She thought to herself, how can anyone sit in a chair and melt into it like that. Page forty-five was when Lutie was working for Mrs. Chandler, and it mentions that the automatic reaction of white people is that if a girl is colored and she is fairly young in age it probably means that she is a prostitute.
