People, sometimes are caring and helpful but often devilish and foul and we often put each other down by insulting one's ethnicity. In the novel “the Wednesday Wars” by Gary D. Schmidt Mai Thi a student at Camillo Junior High is a victim of this kind of misunderstanding. Earlier in the book the school cook, Mrs. Bigio had a husband fighting in the Vietnam war who was killed in action. She seemed to lay the blame on Mai Thi. After an “incident” involving two rats Mai Thi was teased about eating the rodents. Mrs. Bigio comforted Mai Thi and apologized for her wrongful judgement. Racial discrimination is wrong as is any discrimination, but the world will never be rid of racism the best we can do is stand up for anyone unfortunate enough to experience
