Politics is a topic that citizens of any country can admit to following. The government takes care of decisions that can affect the citizens lives greatly. Many people speak up about these changes through cartoons. In this such cartoon, a man is holding his breath until “Washington regains its sanity”. This could refer to the many changes happening within the government of the United States, while not necessarily being specific. Not addressing the topic clearly can make this cartoon relevant for several years. One can be influenced by the government in a life changing way and some people hold their breath and wait for things to go to how they would prefer.

The audience of this cartoon is adults interested in politics. Although the older community is a likely candidate, young adults pay attention to politics just as often. Whether they are associated with politics or stay up to date on the topic, this cartoon can capture their interest. The cartoonist is offering his own opinion on politics. Referring to Washington within the cartoon suggests that the characters are talking about the White House. The government contains multiple branches and complex topics, depending on the publication, the cartoon could refer to anything. However, with recent news, it is a possibility that the cartoonist is talking about the changes being made within the government. …show more content…

In a way, the citizens don't have much say in the decisions being made. This cartoon reflects that part of being a citizen, as the only option for Henry to do is hold his breath.
