The book The Watsons Go to Birmingham--1963 is a very interesting, fun book. In the book, there are many different themes. One of the themes is that your family can help you through tough times and problems, and they always have your back. There are many details that help support that theme. In a few different spots from the book, Kenny’s brother Byron protected him from being bullied. When someone tried to bully Kenny, Byron would sometimes jump in and stop them. That supports the theme because bullying can be a problem for people. Byron makes sure that that doesn’t happen, and makes sure that Kenny doesn’t get hurt. That is one example that helps support the them. Byron also saved Kenny from drowning. In one part of the book, Kenny, Byron,
First, according to Kenny, on page sixteen, if Kenny were to be the one with his lips stuck to the mirror, Byron “would have done some real cruel stuff”. However, when Byron was stuck to the car Kenny did not do anything to him. Kenny did not take advantage when he had the chance.
Sometimes people find their family annoyed but they’re often there for youThe book is about a boy slava who was sitting around one day at school when the rebels attacked. Rebels are going against the government for their religion so they start a war. so slava ran to the bush and made a journey joining groups hoping to find his family. The book The Cremation of Sam McGee is by Robert w. Service the book is about Cap trying to cremate Sam McGee who died of the cold because he is mining for gold then he tries to cremate Sam McGee. Slava and cap use family/friends and determination to get through the challenges family and friends helped Slava and Cap to get through their challengesThe group that Slava is in with his uncle in the Akobo desert.
If you are around 12 years old, and you are currently getting bullied, reading this book can also be a good way if you want to try and do something about the bullying that is happening to you. However, even though the book has solutions to stop bullying, there are some things that Eric does that is exactly what parents don’t want their kids to be doing if they get
This supports my theme because he claims to have given it to one of the people that are looking for it and again, he always seems to be the center of all the problems in the school. As the story is coming to an end, Brody Valentine starts to get cold feet. On page 9 of part 3, Brody wants to give up because he has been through a lot in that school year. This goes against my theme because Brody’s main mission is to never give up, follow signs and lead to great choices. In the last parts of the book, Brody Valentine learns that having people around you always helps with problems and overcoming fears.
en-year-old Kenny Watson is the middle child of an African-American family of five whom he affectionately refers to as the Weird Watsons—who live in Flint, Michigan, in the 1960s. He is very bright, but has a lazy eye that makes him the target of bullying, though he notes that things could be worse, if not for his thirteen-year-old brother Byron. Sometimes Byron leads the bullying, but other times he subtly defends Kenny instead. Kenny doesn’t have a real friend, though, until the day that Rufus and Cody Fry move to town, from Arkansas. Rufus and Cody have a southern accent and an obvious lack of money that make them the new butt of everyone’s teasing.
“The watsons go to birmingham” All kinds of people change in many different ways. Take the two main characters from the novel “The Watsons go to Birmingham” for example. Byron and kenny Watson both go through a lot of changes on the inside and out, but Byron has changed the most. In my opinion Byron changed the most because he cares about his family even more, he acts more responsible and, is a lot more understanding One of the ways Byron changes is that he cares more about his family.
To me the best theme in the story is friendship. I believe that every person needs to show friendship to
In the signature historical fiction novel, The Watsons go to Birmingham, 1963, by Paul Curtis, the Watsons are a typical family. The Watsons are a family that lives in Flint, Michigan. In this family, there are two typical parents that work and live as other families would. There are three children: Kenny, Byron, and Joetta. They are typical in the fact that they are all working-class civilians with no outstanding abnormalities or features.
Family is key. In the book, The Other Wes Moore by Wes Moore, it is about two boys that grew up in the same area with the same name. The book talks about how one boy becomes a Rhode Scholar and the other is serving life in prison from an armed robbery shooting. The events happen are because of their family and how they influence them. In the book, The Other Wes Moore, the author explores the idea of family to develop the theme of having a supportive family is the difference between being successful and failing your goals.
“Free at last, Free at last, Thank God almighty we are free at last.” Dr. Martin King Jr., a activist who stood up for black peoples’ rights, said this during his “I Have a Dream” speech. During the Civil Rights Movement, society changed as a whole. This happened to the Watsons throughout the novel, “The Watsons Go to Birmingham-1963” By Christopher Paul Curtis, a historical fiction novel that parallels to the Civil Rights Movement. This book is about a black family who travels from Flint, Michigan to Birmingham, Alabama during the time of the Civil Rights Movement.
The book by Tony Palmer “Break of Day”, is thrilling and exciting but it also tackles so influential themes. The author expresses his feelings about world issues and many other different topics. He deals mainly with the themes of family secrets, death and bravery. In the book Palmer shows that every family has secrets, that death was always very common during war times and living on a farm back when that book was set and he also expresses his feeling about how everyone shows their true bravery and cowardice in their own time and in their own way.
The poem “Making Sarah Cry” and the play “The Watsons go to Birmingham” have the similar theme of being different. In “Making Sarah Cry” Sarah is different from the other kids on the playground. In “The Watsons go to Birmingham” the Watson family has a different skin color so they are separated from whites to do everyday tasks. The texts, both share a similar theme, but have different qualities. For example, in “Making Sarah Cry” only two people are excluded from playing with kids because of their differences.
For example, the narrator talked about how Sonny stayed at his sister-in-law's house and played his heart out on their piano. This flashback showed his love for music anywhere he was. It helped him escape the pain he was feeling in Harlem and some of his responsibilities of school by staying home and playing. Baldwin also used stereotypes to get his message across. Harlem was not a friendly, rich, white town, so the fact that he chose this setting it made the reader automatically assume that these brothers did not grow up in a stable environment.
One will constantly face temporary conflict throughout life, but ultimately they can overcome through a will to on and pursue what makes oneself happy. Baldwin was able to create a picture in the reader's mind due to his personal relation to his characters, he was able to understand the harsh times for an African-American male. It also reflects on the care that siblings have for one another and how even though they have good intentions, they can't always help their loved one follow a positive
“Family” is a very important symbol for the Mckinley’s. Hutchinson talks about the symbolic interaction theory, and as humans interact with each other they attach meanings to symbols in their lives. In the case of the Mckinley family, “Family” is very important to them because it drives their behavior. Bethany, Stanley, Ruth and Marcia hold a strong relationship with each other and even though their external world seems to be falling apart, their sense of self is strong because they provide for their family through love and support. Stanley despite finding work is a great caretaker for his mother.
