The Year 4016 Analysis

Lucille Tenazas is certainly the kind of person who welcomes all sorts of experiences with open arms and lets them sink into her mind and feelings and purify her personality. All bits of her experiences, particularly those with a cultural and social aspect, have turned her into an exceptional figure, a figure that is respectable to everyone.

Stasiland (2002) is a non-fiction journalistic text written by Anna Funder whereas, in 1984 (1949) written by George Orwell is a dystopian novel. Both texts look at how oppression works and what they have in common is the oppression of individualities. Anne funder is looking at what really happened, yet it is still horrific however, Orwell takes it to an extreme because it’s a novel. In addition to this, in Stasiland people’s privacy and freedom is being invaded because of the uncontrollable power that the Stasi holds. This is the same with 1984, Big Brother and how they would watch everything that happens to every single individual so they’re not going against the country.

After the Seven Years’ War (1756-1763) Britain was in financial turmoil. Although Britain gained imperial assets, they also gained a massive national debt so Britain looked to the North American colonies as a source of revenue. In 1765, British Parliament passed the Stamp Act, which was an internal tax in the colonies. This was the first time Britain ever tried to tax the colonies but the colonies were upset because they felt only their elected colonial assemblies could tax them. They resisted the act then resorted to violence and intimidation. Giving up, the Stamp Act was repealed in 1766. Parliament felt they had a right to tax the colonies and enact legislation over them.
