A long walk to water conveys the high-impact themes of the Sudanese war. The technique of point of view is used to let the reader see the two angles of Nya and Salva. I have used the theme of war to show the dangers and themes in the novel. An example of this is when Salva lost his home and family. This successfully represents the destruction and devastation of the war with the appearance of guns as well as soldiers also adds to the theme of war. This text effectively represents the theme of war because of the harsh realities of south Sudan between 1985 and 2009. How a long walk to water represents water as a main theme. the technique of symbolism to show the struggle for water in the community. I have used water to display the water scarcity and importance of water in the novel. The novel successfully represents the importance of water. An example of this is when Salva finds the well full of water symbolizing another theme of hope. Generally, water is important but in countries like Sudan water is scarce, showing the importance when Nya had her well added to her village. …show more content…
The technique of dialogue shows the relationships with their families. An example of this is how both nya and Salva are motivated throughout the novel by their families to keep pushing and surviving. This successfully represents characterization and dialogue to highlight the importance of family in the novel. An example of this is Salva and his father's connection and bond which gives a source of comfort and motivation throughout his journey in the novel. The book "A Long Walk to Water" by Linda Sue Park explores the life of Salva, an 11-year-old boy living in South Sudan, after he is displaced by the Sudanese Civil War. First, in 1985, Salva and his classmates are instructed to run into the bush to escape the gunfire that was heard not far from the school. Then, he joins a group of travelers who are walking away from the war in Sudan, but they abandon him in a barn one evening while he is still asleep. After spending a few days with the barn's owner, Salva is sent away with a different group of travelers, must of whom accept him grudgingly. The group walks for a month toward Ethiopia, and eventually they arrive to the Itang refugee camp in Ethiopia.

How Did Salva Survive The War? Did you know that over 20,000 people- mostly kids from the age of 5-10, fled from their hometowns in Sudan in order to go to Ethiopia and Kenya? A Long Walk to Water is about an 11 year old boy, named Salva, who lived in Sudan, until the civil war broke out. He traveled for hundreds of miles on foot.
“A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier” is a moving war story about the author, Ishmael Beah, and his life growing up in the african country. Sierra Leone is the setting during the civil war which spanned from March of 1991 to January of 2002. Ishmael provides a stance against child soldiers, and has stuck with that view ever since he was rehabilitated. This book presents strong first hand encounters and vivid war stories. This helps prove the argument that child soldiering is a cruel act, and by using rehabilitation, victims would be able to return to regular life.
Just add Water: Perseverance Perseverance is an important theme in A Long Walk To Water. I chose the theme perseverance because Salva perseveres through his journey and never gives up. The first example of perseverance is when Salva was walking through the desert and he was almost about give up.
For example chapter 1 Southern Sudan, 1985, “Stay away from the villages-run into the bush. He went to the door and looked out again. Go! All of you, now!” This shows that war is a huge hardship in southern Sudan by pushing kids out of school because they are endangered.

A theme present in the story is family will protect you, which will prove to be important to Salva’s story. A piece of evidence that proves the theme is "If it hadn't been for Uncle, Salva may have gone crazy with fear."
Salva barely escaped with his life. Eventually he found himself the leader of 1,500 Lost Boys. He led them to a new refugee camp in Kenya on a journey that took a year and a half. In the book, " A Long Walk To Water" by Linda Sue Park, is a book about a little boy in Sothern Sudan who gets separated from his family due to war and must walk a great distance through tough terrain. Perseverance is an important theme in A Long Walk To Water. The first example of Perseverance is when Salva listens to what his uncle says. His uncle uses his full name, and Salva thinks of his family. Uncle tells him to only walk as far as that bush, or clump of rocks. Salva perseveres by thinking of his family.
In Linda Sue Park’s novel A Long Walk to Water, demonstrates one of many true stories of many a Lost Boy. Salva an eleven year old had to flee from his village all alone because his village was attacked due to the Second Sudanese War that began in 1983. When Salva was at school and his village was being attacked,he was told not to go home, but into the bush, that's where his whole journey began. Salva had to show confidence, determination, and perseverance in order to survive in a difficult environment.
Salva never gave up and took things ‘bit by bit, one step at a time. Nya always had hope and believed that there would be an easier way to get water, and she persevered every day by going to get water. Hope and perseverance relate to today because without them, we would never believe anything was going to get better or stay true to what we believe. We need hope in everyday life because if something is going bad at school, at home, at work, or anywhere, we need to be able to believe that something good will come. Also, we need to have perseverance because we need to stay true to what we believe or what we are
