In the book Freak The Mighty by Rodman Philbrick I believe the theme is that friendship is unlimited my your physical differences. Max, a very big eighth grader and our narrating main character, is at the Fourth of July fireworks with his new best friend Freak, who according to Max hasn't grown since preschool.
