The Melting Point: How Global Warming is Changing the World Forever By:Santiago Reyes Medina
In the novel The Marrow Thieves, the author of the story used many ideas and problems that we face in our modern society. The author gives a horrifically good depiction of what our earth could look like in a couple years or so. By doing this, the book gave the readers more of an idea of what's to come in our near future and the consequences of our actions. When people, most notably directors and book writers, give a taste of the real world in their work, it gives their work more of a feel and sensation than those of non-fiction works. Undeniably, giving it more of a touch of a real life aspect makes the book more powerful and meaningful, and could

Global warming is a serious problem in today's society and will continue to be as long as humanity continues to live on for. The effects of global warming in the novel were catastrophic and most of that damage is now irreversible, and it's not to say that those things won't happen to us. "Increasing magnitudes of warming increase the likelihood of severe, pervasive, and irreversible impacts." ( Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change ). This is one of the main reasons why as far as I'm concerned, the events of this story could become our reality in the near future. There are times in the book where it tells us what the earth could look like in the future such as “The earth was broken. Too much taking for too damn long, so she finally broke… A melting north meant the water levels rose and the building tsunamis, spinning tornados, crumbling earthquakes, and the shapes of countries were changed forever, whole coasts breaking off like crust.” (Cherie Dimaline. The Marrow Thieves, Cormorant Books Inc, 2017, pp. 87). These types of sentences are what makes the book have an overall better understanding of global warming because it relates to real world …show more content…
Increasing temperatures, increasing sea levels, melting glaciers, and extreme weather events like storms, droughts, and floods are all direct results of global warming. Experts foresee severe effects for the planet's future, including severe food shortages, climate refugees, and the extinction of numerous species, if global warming continues at its current rate.“This warming trend is alarming. Our warming climate is already making a mark: Forest fires are intensifying; hurricanes are getting stronger; droughts are wreaking havoc and sea levels are rising. NASA is deepening our commitment to do our part in addressing climate change. Our Earth System Observatory will provide state-of-the-art data to support our climate modeling, analysis and predictions to help humanity confront our planet’s changing climate.” (NASA Administrator Bill
Kevin Williamson writes in his essay “Apocalypse Soonish: The End Times Roll On” regarding the controversial discussion of climate change and humanity's’ love for apocalyptic drama. Williamson is an excellent writer who knows how to engage the reader with humor and wry comparisons as well as point out some obvious trends that show how dramatic some people can be regarding apocalyptic scenarios. However, his frequent disregard for the consequences of the warming's effects, inability to keep a concise argument and tone, and the recurrent misinterpretation of scientific findings, makes his paper difficult to take seriously. In “Apocalypse Soonish” Williamson compares previous hypotheses and estimations of the earth’s future to current studies
Because people don’t know about the aspects of nature, they believe that global warming can’t be affected by such a small event. Our society thinks that one change in the weather doesn’t have a big impact on our planet. If these thoughts continue, our planet could end up dying even faster than it already is. Overall, people don’t understand that small things can have big
When dealing with the facts of life, many people like to be lied to because they believe that it would lessen the hopeless feeling the news would bring. However, when dealing with issues such as global warming and pollution, the matter should be dealt with in the strictest and most truthful manner due to the severity of the issue. Many authors have published fictional books about events that may happen if humans do not change their ways, however, it heavily relies on the reader’s emotion to empathize with the main character and some events that occur is speculative. When it comes to non-fiction pieces about global warming, like in the article like “Coming Home,” by Roy Scranton, this article is rooted in statics and real life events and are
This chapter also describes the causes and consequences of Global Warming. This is important to me because our life depends on how we act toward this problem. Every person living on Earth should be informed of what is happening and what will happen if we continue to live like this for the upcoming
Lee also uses certain wording and tone in his text to convey the magnitude of not only climate change, but why humans are the cause. “The current rate and magnitude of warming are unprecedented and are largely linked to human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, and land-use changes”(Lee). Lee gives examples of the human factors in the cause of climate change and his wording in this sentence gives the reader a sense of humility that their own actions have led to this global
Almost anyone who will read this essay has undoubtedly heard of the climate phenomenon Global warming. Global warming is a topic that gets discussed very often nowadays, most notably during political debate and discussion. Politicians use certain stances on global warming to appeal to voter’s emotions and logic in order to gain votes and support for their campaign, however climate change is nothing new, during the past several hundred thousand years the Earth has heated up and cooled down and even experienced so called “ice ages”, which is a period where glacial deposits located at the northern and southern hemispheres have grown due to dramatic global cool downs. Don’t be confused by climate terminology though, the global warming so widely
The Earth is melting, and people need to help. Climate change is a regular thing that happens on Earth, but recently, it has changed drastically. " Since 1880, Earth’s average temperature has increased by about 0.8 degrees Celsius. (BGE) This may not seem like much, but scientists are worried.
The earth is heating up 500 billion tons of ice will collapse. Then one and a half feet of sea level will rise and then the water would move 150 feet inland in Florida. If this keeps up the world will slowly but surely heat up. Without humans trying to help the environment the world could flood. Some of the problem is Human responsibility and how it is ruining the earth and how the environment and nature will fall because of Global Warming.
Firstly global warming is actually natural, and the temperature has been slowly rising and cooling throughout the past 3000 years and the sudden rise in temperature in the recent years is perfectly normal and shouldn 't be considered as the destruction the earth. According to www.currentscience.ac.in "In 2014 a study of 2,181
Nancy Lord’s Early Warming and Elizabeth Kolbert’s “The Darkening Sea” both discuss how global warming is affecting the world. Lord and Kolbert talk about the negative result of climate change and try to raise awareness to global warming. Both Lord’s Early Warming and Kolbert’s “The Darkening Sea” use many different kinds of rhetorical strategies throughout their text. In Lord’s Early Warming, Lords relates to the community about climate change and tells stories about how global warming has affected many people around us.
In another article written by Amanda Macmillan summarizes the effects global warming has on nature due to the cause of overload of carbon dioxide and forest deforestation. First, the text states earth’s rising “temperatures are fueling longer and hotter heat waves, more frequent droughts, heavier rainfall, and more powerful hurricanes”, which is not good news for us living here on planet earth. And it doesn’t stop there-there are also the effects of global warming creating even more “intense allergy seasons”, and the frequent sea level rise happening around the world.obviously these problems are not convenient for us we shouldn’t ignore this any more change must come. Other major examples found on a website called livescience.com it states “heavier flooding and precipitation” will come in result of global warming, and over the last 100 years the global temp has gone up .4 degrees celsius. These stats might not seem like a lot but they are having drastic effects on our
Climate change is an irreversible consequence of the damage we do to our Earth. If we do not change our ways, the global temperature will swell, causing an unchangeable series of events, consecrating detriments onto all the existence upon Earth. In only about 140 years, the average global temperature has increased 0.8 degrees celsius, and the ramification is the irreparable destruction of the place where we and millions of other species live. The most important consequence of climate change is the global increase in temperature and how that is affecting various animal species all over the Earth, the health of humans, and the rapid rise of sea level.
Homero Castro Ms. Cabaj English IV, 3rd period 12 February 2018 Global Warming Global Warming is affecting the entire world. The issue of global warming is important because it’s affecting everyone.
They are investigating into natural cycles and patterns and trying to figure out its results in measurable terms. However, this measurement is not precise enough to be reliable until other interconnecting factors like greenhouse gases are taken into consideration. The main origin for global warming is the infusion of several harmful gases in the atmosphere. Humans are dependent on fossil fuels to meet its energy requirements which in return produces carbon dioxide and other harmful gases.
Global warming is all about adverse climate change caused by the trapping of greenhouse gases in the earth's atmosphere that affects biodiversity and poses a serious health hazard. Scientists have found strong evidence that human activities have caused most of the warming since the mid-1900 (“global warming”). Humans are responsible for
