In “Raymond’s Run” and “All-American Slurp”, the theme of the story affects the lives of the main characters. In “All-American Slurp” the theme is “change takes some time to get used to” the main character, the Lin girl needs some time to get used to America because she came in from living a different culture. And in “Raymond’s Run”, the theme is “the way you act affects what others think of you” the main character Squeaky wants real friends but, she first needs to learn how to control her attitude.
In “Raymond’s Run” what Squeaky wants is real friends but, what's holding her back is her temper, responsibilities with taking care of Raymond, being over confident, and her urge to help Raymond with his disabilities. These reasons may come off as Squeaky being a rude person or a bully. She really wants friends because she focuses her life on Raymond and her hobbies. Another reason is, Squeaky doesn't really talk nicely to people like Gretchen and her friends so they don’t get along. Since Squeaky is over protective of Raymond, she threatens people like Gretchen who make fun of him. Because Squeaky is also competitive it leads people to think that she is an aggressive person. The

What makes her different from the American girls is her clothes because, she wears a long skirt unlike the other girls who wear jeans. Another thing that makes her different from the others is her language, the Lin girl doesn’t know how to speak English as well as the other girls do. And the last thing that makes her different is the food she eats and how she eats it, for example she's never had a milkshake before, she slurped her soup because that was normal to do from where she was from, and she didn't know how to eat at a buffet. The theme impacts her life because it’s keeping her from doing what she really wants which is to fit in but, because she’s different it will take some time
The short stories, “Fortune Cookie” by Avi and “Raymond's Run” by Toni Cade Bambara, are about two disrespectful kids named Parker and Squeaky that act nasty to others. They don't understand that in life, they have to appreciate others point of view. The ways that this is true is in the way the characters don't understand how others feel, in the way the characters are disrespectful to others, and in the way the characters only think about their feelings. The first way that the stories suggest that in life, you should appreciate others point of view is in the way the characters don't understand how others feel ¨“Hey, you never said anything about money,” I said.

Overall the story “Raymond’s Run” has changed my perspective on how I look at myself and how I look at others too. Squeaky inspires me to believe in myself and to look after others. With all of Squeaky’s sass and the tough girl she seems to be. I think that she has a lot of love in her.
I predict that Raymond will become a great runner just like squeaky. He mocks squeaky when she runs so he knows all of the tricks to running. When she was racing she looked over at Raymond and he was climbing the fence and mocking her. He mocks her at everything. Squeaky and her dad can teach Raymond how to run.
