There were three major themes that persisted throughout Priscilla Cummings' book, Red Kayak. The first theme was the endurance of loss and remorse. The second theme was that actions have consequences. The last theme was don't follow in someone else's shadow when they're doing something they shouldn't be.
The endurance of loss and remorse was the first of three themes. This subject runs throughout the book; Brady is the one who has demonstrated it because he believes he killed Ben and spends the entire novel blaming himself for his death and carrying the shame of his death with him. Another instance of this theme was when Brady's companions drilled holes in the boat, resulting in Ben's death, but he remained in their shadows despite the fact that they were doing something that they should not have. The last proof that was shown in the novel was that when Brandy's sister died, his entire family went into chaos, and they tried to act as if Amanda never existed, which they considered their method of "fixing" the problem; Brandy still regrets not spending a greater quantity of time alongside her and experiences an enormous surge of sorrow as a result of her death. This book's theme has taught me that no matter what happens or how guilty you feel, keep going.

When Brady discovered the drill, he began to realize it was the cause of the kayak sinking. He could've tried to stop J.T. and Digger, but Brady didn't, and this would later be the cause of Ben's death. When Digger and J.T. are caught by the police for tampering with the kayak, which resulted in a death, they are forced to face the consequences of their actions. They're charged with a crime, and they have to make amends through community service. This shows how actions can have consequences that can impact your life for a long
“ ‘You didn’t have to make Ben die,’ I muttered before I began to cry.” In the novel The Red Kayak by Priscilla Cummings, Brady, the protagonist, uses many different methods for coping with the challenges he faced such as the death of Ben DiAngelo. Some of the times where the reader saw how Brady coped with the intense situations he encountered were after the accident, when he discovered what J.T. and Digger did, and during the separation among his friends. The first time the way Brady’s coping method was shown was after he discovered Ben’s death when Brady was stressed out. Brady blamed himself for what happened to Ben, and he kept all of his feelings boiling up inside.
Themes in a story help to describe what the book is about. It does this in the book Night by helping describe what World War 2 was like for the Jews. It also helps to see what the people in the camps went through. My two themes from night are imprisonment and survival. The first one I will talk about is imprisonment, then i’ll talk about survival.
In literature, theme is a tool writers use to convey a deeper meaning. In Left to Tell by Immaculee Ilibagiza, several significant themes are conveyed throughout the memoir. These include faith and forgiveness as a source of strength, violence and prejudice as learned behaviors; friends becoming enemies, and the loss of innocence. The most apparent theme is faith and forgiveness as a source of strength because of how Immaculee's faith guides her through the genocide and how forgiveness gives her the power to let go and heal her enemies.
These themes are common in most of the stories and poems read during this semester. It has enabled me to realize the similarities in many of the books people read everyday and what lessons are learned. These lesson can go from simple to complex. The freedom for some ethnicities in some environments can be hard because they can be easily discriminated against because of their race or their color. The masks people wear are to hide their true feelings, so they become something that people will become more accepting of and not judge them.
In the book I.Q: The Alamo by Roland Smith I think the theme is never give up hope. Throughout the story the main characters, Quest and Angela are constantly in sticky situations, no matter the situation the duo never seem to give up hope, at the beginning of the book the theme was not yet made clear but as the story progressed the theme began to take shape, when near the middle of the story, it was made clear to Quest and Angela when another character gave them words of the wiser saying that hope is the only thing that will keep you going through a tough time. As the story progressed from the point of getting the advice, Quest and Angela began to use this advice more and more. Near the end of the novel the theme was much more clearer as Angela describes having hope as an essential. An example of this would be when Quest got kidnapped and Angela was being held hostage in a hotel room both at the same time, they were both very hopeful and didn't give up hope that the other would
Here is what happens that shows this theme. Willow Chance a twelve year old girl had to overcome the sudden loss of both her parents, she had a hard time dealing, but with the help of Mai, Pattie, Dell Duke, and even Quang-Ha she was able to persevere. Mai and Quang-Ha had lived in a garage for several years because they never had enough money to live in a real home, despite that they made the best of it. Willow Chance persevered when her teachers thought she had cheated on a test she got a perfect score despite the fact that she knew she didn’t cheat. This theme is shown in real life when friends help someone cope with the death of a loved one and you persevere and go back to living your life normally.
One of these themes is the idea of fate and chance. One example of fate and chance is whenever John Oakhurst, The Duchess, and Mother Shipton decide to go along with Uncle Billy. They know that he is a “suspected sluice-robber and confirmed drunkard” (Harte par. 6). Unfortunately, their luck had run out and Uncle Billy had turned out to be just how they had suspected when he ran off with the horses in the middle of the first night (par. 19). An example is whenever John Oakhurst gave up his snow-shoes so he can stay behind and protect the girls.
The theme off the story is successes of doing right and tragedy of doing wrong. The theme is oblivious after reading through the book. Wes Moore wrote in the introduction “our destinies can be determined by a single stumble down the wrong path, or a tentative step down the right one.” I believe this is what he is trying to teach us about humanity through his work. The book show both sides of humanity the dark side and when its at it best.
The novel has two themes displayed through the novel. One theme is to never give up. Another theme is when an individual is scared to do something they can overcome
To me the best theme in the story is friendship. I believe that every person needs to show friendship to
One common theme throughout the book is that, an Individual's choice has consequences. This theme is shown throughout the book from multiple devices. Imagery is a strong device used by many authors to visually describe a literary work. In the other Wes Moore, imagery
The last theme that I find important is the theme of transformation. The transformation of this story is a psychological one. This transformation is driven by countless trials of the soldiers in the
Kidd uses the characterization of Lily, T. Ray, May, and Deborah to demonstrate the theme that people’s lives are more complex than they appear. By using these characters, Kidd demonstrates how judgements are made about people based on their actions. People don’t always think about how a person really feels on the inside and they do not know about everything that goes on in their head. This is a theme that is significant to the world at any time period because everyone can relate to it. Therefore, the theme of this story is significant in people’s lives
A central theme is a frequent and reoccurring principal that is loyal and committed through the story. There could be multiple themes, or messages, in a narrative. Throughout Night there were diverse themes such as survival and dehumanization. Those themes come through in the real world as well. Survival is the greatest and most recognizable theme that appears to the end.
All the themes of the novel link together, as family and friends resolve Taylors story arc by giving her a place to belong. Ultimately, the themes of the novel are used in such a way that allows readers to gain a better understanding of the characters. The themes of the novel are themes of the major characters worlds, essentially giving readers a look inside the characters head. Melanie Marchetta applied language techniques to furthermore emphasise the themes of the story. Overall, the authors use of themes created a fictional world full of complex and realistic
