So basically, work-life balance is an organizational concept that allows employees to split their time and energy between work and other important areas of their life successfully. Today, organizations put lots of time and efforts while designing their work life balance programs so as to make their employees happy and satisfied. As cited Clutterbuck (2003), an individual manages real or potential conflict between different demands on time and energy in a way that satisfies the needs for well being and self fulfilment is referred as work life balance. According to Susi.S (2010), work life balance is a drive for satisfaction of employees in the organizations. Despite the lack of clarity of the concept of psychological well-being at work, we nevertheless try to articulate the concept of well-being in general. It is easy to admit that the overall well-being of a person draws its origin in the different spheres of activity of his life, like family, friends, sporting activities and work. It’s therefore represents a source of influence among others on general wellbeing. Also, another important distinction to take into consideration is the difference between the concepts of well-being at work and the notion of well-being of the worker in the workplace. • The well-being of the person at work: involves hygiene, safety, health, the embellishment of the workplace, etc.
Work-life balance is about creating and maintaining supportive and healthy work environments, which will enable employees to have balance between work and personal responsibilities and thus strengthen employee loyalty and productivity (Abercromby, 2007). The result of these synchronous changes in patterns of both working and household life is a complicated multi-variable balancing act as workers and their managers juggle these different parts of their lives, with an understandable concomitant level of stress and social tension (Clark, 2000). Some researchers show that organizational interest in the management of the work-life balance derives from evidence that there is little doubt any more that there is a clear connection between the way people are managed and organizational performance (Purcell, 2002) and that with the onset of predicted skill-shortages, the ability to offer effective work-life balance employment opportunities may become a source of competitive
