Both of these authors wrote science fiction for the most part. They both really liked to write with a very imaginative style. In this they both created story with a lot of personification and out of this world personalities. Both of their writing were very suspenseful in: “There Will Come Soft Rains” and “The Tell Tale Heart”. Both of these stories in some way end off pretty sad or scary in a way and have a very suspenseful spot or a large peak in a story. And both of these authors wrote very successful poems. Poe started getting into horror further into his carrier. In many ways Poe’s writing was different from Ray’s. Almost all of Poe’s writing was horror and suspense. One of his major stories is: “The Raven” this story is considered a great American literary work. Poe started to write about death and loss and was very successful with his new theme and style. Ray said that a library raised him and that's why he writes the way he does. Ray started to write when he was 13 and wrote the same all his life. Even though these two writers share a similarity, there are drastic differences in their stories. Edgar Allen Poe specialized in the horror genre. Poe is known for dealing with various different main characters and settings, to make his stories more interesting.

Their use of literary devices holds a deeper meaning between the lines inside each story. Both use things like irony, allusion, imagery, symbolism, and many more. However, the only difference is the time period of what was there and what wasn’t.
