TGA
Thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) is very much essential parameter because of an electrolyte membrane must have adequate thermal stability for DMFC application. The TGA curves of pure PVA, PVA/SPEEK blend and PVA/SEEK/MMT composite membranes are shown in Figs. 7 & 8 and their results are listed in Table 3. All the samples were analyzed in the temperature range of 25 ºC to 600 ºC. In the case pure PVA (P0) membrane, the first weight loss is (about 8%) appeared around 60-120 ºC. It is attributed by the vaporization weakly bounded (water) O-H molecules. The second weight loss is lies in the range of 240-360 ºC is due to the thermal degradation of acetic groups of PVA polymer. The existence of third weight loss is around 410-500 ºC occurs by

11 & 12 respectively. It is well known fact that, the higher water uptake and lower methanol uptake is the need of good membrane candidate in DMFCs because, which can plays an important role in ionic conduction process as well as in fuel permeation. In addition to that, the membrane swelling can determine the mechanical strength of the membrane. As expected, all the prepared composite membranes are exhibited higher uptake values in water and the membrane of PSM2 showed lower uptake in 5M methanol solution. On the other hand, these membranes were resulted low swelling in thickness along with appreciable change in planner direction. It is clearly observed that, the enhancement on water uptake is due to the increasing amounts of additives of ionic SPEEK polymer and hydrophilic MMT nano clay filler. The existence of water molecules can facilitates ionic transfer and also improves the ionic conductivity of electrolyte membranes. Further, the proton conductivity of the membranes could depend on the presence of available acid groups and also due their dissociation capability in water, which can desire by means of ionic sites generation. Moreover, the membrane PSM2 identified as best canditate than the others. It is assure that the membrane PSM2 can results higher values in IEC and proton
The purpose of this experiment was to analyze the % phosphorous in Miracle Gro. Gravimetric Analysis was used to determine the content of phosphorous in this water soluble fertilizer. The overall goal of Gravimetric Analysis is to form the precipitate MgNH4PO46H2O and isolate it from the aqueous solution by vacuum filtration. In order to obtain the precipitate, a series of dissolution reactions and vacuum filtration were performed. First, Miracle Gro was dissolved with DI water and reacted with activated copper to remove coppers ions in the fertilizer.
section{Evaluation} label{sec-analyze} vspace{-0.08in} We evaluate Tarax with the six popular server applications described above. We first perform experiments to compare the performance and code sizes of the Tarax-optimized kernels and the vanilla kernel. We then perform dynamic profiling on the kernels to collect detailed statistics on instruction cache misses and branches. Finally, we switch on specific GCC optimizations with and without profile feedback, respectively, to collect performance numbers.
This shows that these substances conduct electricity as a solid. The next test was conductivity as a solution. From our findings, sucrose had poor conductivity, while ascorbic acid and sodium chloride had good conductivity. Ascorbic acid conducts electricity because
The quantitative solubility of the unknown compound was determined to be 29/100ml. The known solubility of sodium sulfate is 28.11g/100mL water. Using the found solubility to compare to the known solubility of sodium sulfate. This solution created in the solubility test, the conductivity of the unknown compound was tested using an Ohmmeter to measure the resistance of the solution. Resistance is the measure of a substances ability to conduct
Goals The primary goal of this experiment was to identify an unknown compound by running various tests to determine the qualitative solubility, conductivity, and pH value of the compound. Tests were also performed for the presence of specific cations and anions in the compound. The second goal was to discover the reactivity of the unknown compound by reacting it with different types of substances. The third goal of this project was to calculate the quantitative solubility of the unknown compound in water.
Did you know 1 in 5 Canadians will experience some form of mental illness. Some will experience it to a greater degree than others. Anise, the main character of the book Gravity Journal by Gail Sidonie Sobat, is one of many one in five. She has anorexia and depression and is hospitalized for the second time because of it. She spends her hospital stays in ward 4-psych-o, a very ironically named ward.
On the northern slope of Hawaii's Mauna Loa Volcano, six scientists have been living as though they are inhabiting Mars. The reason; to see if the diet they are on will be enough for a real astronaut to survive on. For four months, Hawaii Space Exploration Analogue and Simulations (HI-SEAS) participants have been studying how their food supply has effected their energy, weight and of course, their appetites. The mock-astronaut's new diet has resulted in minor weight loss for every member. This, of course, could be from the frequent exercise that the scientists did not partake in while at home.
Also for the chloride test, around 30 and 140 ppm . Dissolved oxygen was around 330 ppm. The conductivity was accurate for all of the groups because it matched the given chart. Multiple errors could have occured to alter the performance of this lab. For example, the scientist used the conductivity sensor incorrectly, therefore the conductivity results for the known and unknown were incorrect.
• ionic compounds can only conduct electricity if their ions are free to move. Ionic compounds only conduct when they are melted or dissolved in water and they do not do not conduct electricity when they are solid. Sodium chloride– it is soluble in water, it has high boiling and melting point, it does not conduct in its solid state, except when it dissolves in water or melted then it will conduct electricity.
This represents fourth problem. Also since Mr. C is obese, it increases the risk factor for Diabetes. Although Mr. C is aware about his physical condition and tries to manage his blood pressure but he should also focus on his food eating and exercise
According to surgeon and Master of Public Health Atul Gawande, the morbidly obese should consider Roux-en-Y gastric-bypass surgery (Gawande 187). In “The Man Who Couldn’t Stop Eating,” Gawande describes Vincent Caselli’s gastric-bypass operation as well as his complete recovery. He explains what a Roux-en-Y gastric-bypass is, and retells several personal accounts from his experience as a surgeon. Throughout the article, Gawande gives many facts about the surgery, stating that many problems can arise during the recovery phase. Overall, many people lose at least two-thirds of their weight in a year; however, in rare cases, people can regain their weight or even exceed their original weight (194, 196).
Synopsis This laboratory report gives an outline of the experiment which was carried out in order to measure the density of water at different temperatures via two different methods. The lab consisted of two parts. In the first part the density of water was measured by hydrometer. At first the density of water at room temperature was measured.
To change the world we need to combat obesity! Being that obesity is the 5th leading cause of deaths worldwide it has become a major issue (EASO, n.d.). Obesity is no longer just in the high income countries we associate it with, it’s now prevalent in middle and low income countries as well. This is cause for concern because now 65% of the world’s population lives in a country where more people die from being overweight or obese instead of being underweight. Death is an extreme when it comes to obesity, but still likely, and it’s mostly seen in the elderly.
Properties of Ionic and Covalent Substances Lab Report Introduction The purpose of this lab was to determine which of the following substances: wax, sugar, and salt, are an ionic compound and which are a covalent compound. In order to accurately digest the experiments results, research of definitions of each relating led to the following information: ionic compounds are positive and negatively charged ions that experience attraction to each other and pull together in a cluster of ionic bonds; they are the strongest compound, are separated in high temperatures, and can be separated by polar water molecules. A covalent compound forms when two or more nonmetal atoms share valence electrons; covalent compounds are also
Microcalorimetry experiment was performed on Setaram−C80 heat flow calorimeter coupled to a multiport high-vacuum homemade glass manifold. A specific amount of the sample (approx. 500 mg) was taken into a sample cell, reference cell was taken as empty and together they are connected with Pyrex tee. The sample was heated from room temperature to 200°C under vacuum and kept for 2 h, then 3-4 doses of helium gas were introduced into the system to remove any excess residue such as moisture or organic impurity from the system. The system was heated for 4-5 hr under vacuum at 200°C and then cooled down to the temperature (50°C) where we want to perform the adsorption study.
