CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND INTRODUCTION Body piercing is a puncture in the body by the usage of needles. Pierce are pieces of jewelry in the body. Some people puncture their bodies in ears, nostrils, cheeks, lips, tongue, and even in the belly button. People pierce their bodies with a very sharp needles in order to put the jewelry in the body. Other people pierce their body for religious beliefs or spiritual needs, traditions, for self-expression, for sexual pleasure and to rebel. People has different interpretations in terms of doing the body piercing in order to express themselves. Our body is like a temple, but for some, they use their body to express themselves other way around, because for them doing body piercing is a statement …show more content…

Piercing is their statement of how they are using their freedom of expression. Their families accepts their decision in getting pierced because they believe that the happiness of the family member is their happiness, too even some parents do not accept why their child is getting involve with the piercing. In ancient time, people believed that putting some metal at their ears will put the demons away. Whatever people believe in, as a human, there should be the word ‘respect’ for every individual because whatever the reason behind no one should judge a person for what he/she believes. This study will explain why some people engaged themselves on body piercing, and give the enlightenment for those people who do not know what body is piercing. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM The researcher aimed to endeavor the deeper understanding of why do people engaged themselves on body piercing. Specifically answers following questions: 1) What are the reasons why people engage in body piercing? 2) How does a person feel with the body piercing? 3) How does having body piercing change the life of a person? 4) How does a person with body piercing feel when people look at them?
