One writing task that I believe I did well on when writing the practice essay would be my use of structure. My thesis statement was clear as the introduction of my essay, explaining what my topic sentences will be pertaining to throughout the entire paper. One writing task that I believe I could work on is my development. I should have incorporated more details and ideas that supported every topic sentence that occurred. For example, in my essay I talked about my travels regarding the military, however, I barely scratched the surface of what new and exciting features about the places that I could’ve capitalize on. On the grammar assessment, errors I had difficulty with included parallelism, subject/verb agreement, and comma usage. For parallelism
I also delineate my writing strengths and weaknesses that played out as I tackled these assignments. The Literacy Narrative assignment enabled me to learn how
I referred to unit 7’s discussion post where you outlined your essay. So far your research has proven to make for an interesting essay. I’m sorry I did not find a persuasive thesis statement in Unit 8 though, meaning I’m not convinced that there should be a policy change. I know you stated this is a working thesis statement which was not included in unit 8’s post. If you don’t mind, I would like to give some guidance.
Some distracting Errors. Third person and present tense. Serious Errors; Third person / present tense inconsistent. Unacceptable errors.
The other miscues were self-corrections, and insertions. The miscues that Andrea made did interfere with the syntax and semantics of the sentences. Developmental Reading assessment (DRA) provided me with additional information regarding Andrea’s independent reading level. I started off testing Andrea on a 5th grade
I also practiced being personal accountable because I had to finish it and turn it in on time so I could also present it and practice those skills. The hardest part for me was coming up with the story because I did not want it to be boring, and the easiest part for me was typing it because once I started typing I did not stop. I also practiced my critical thinkers skills because I had to think and make a story that could go in,“To Kill a Mocking
The Smarthinking program offers assistance in areas that majority of adult students may struggle in such as creating a essay. Since I’ve been out of school for almost 20 years I’ve struggled with creating a successful essay. I didn’t understand why we needed to prepare to tell a story. However I learned that college was much more then just writing or telling a story. It requires you to have organization starting with a topic introduction, thesis statement, main ideas and closing statement so that your audience can have a clear understanding of the message your giving.
This semester was filled with many bumpy roads. I struggled in the beginning of the semester with my writings , as I didn 't feel confident enough to write a well developed writing. I seemed to find myself struggling whereas writing was not my favorable subject. The major errors I had in my writings this semester would be , grammatical errors, work citations, transition words, formatting ,paragraph development, sentence structure , and sentence level issue. Therefore I have set goals to improve my writing in the future.
I have revised my thesis statement to two sentences, rather than one. This is so that my point can be understood in a more effective way. My thesis statement is as follows. “There should be more stringent screening processes for individuals wanting to own guns in the United States because the current laws and regulations do not require mental health background checks and evaluations. Too many people with mental health issues are slipping through the cracks and obtaining weapons and then using them on innocent people.”
Goodmorning Ms. Scoggins, Hopefully you are having a great weekend in this lovely morning. The reason that I am reach out to you is that I have some concern about the course, and how it will impact my life once I leave Collins. Since I was a little girl, I really have never been a fanatic of english the reason for this I struggle to talk write and read the language. Now I have improve on talking and reading, but as much as I have improve in those area I am still lacking on my writing. I am having problems with my grammar and my thesis statement; I am able to understand the topic and write a lot more than what is required from me.
If I had to make a list with all of my grammar issues, my number one would be “articles”. For an ESL student, it is really difficult to understand when I should use an article and what articles should be used. Thus, articles such as “a” and “the”, are tricky for me. Another challenge for me is
Throughout the term there has been many writing assignments —big or small— that helped reflect my writing process or the process itself. In the beginning of the course I felt like I was an “ok” writer, but lacked some skills such as: organization, sentence variety, and vocabulary. Also, I did not like to write and had a feeling of dislike when forced to write. I felt like I improved on everything I wanted and was seen throughout the semester. I know how to organize my ideas, the worksheets given in class to work on sentence variety really helped, and vocabulary was built on some level.
There should be no errors. I proof read the essay to make sure there weren't
1. What I like best about your essay is that there is a good balance between details and narrating, which makes your paper understandable and enjoyable. 2. What I like best about your introduction is that it sets a mysterious tone and keeps you wanting to find out what it is you are talking about, and I believe it was a great hook. What you might consider is clarifying in your intro that the experienced helped you have confidence in being a teacher, but I understand that the thesis doesn’t necessarily have to be “in your face”, so just consider this suggestion.
The type of writing assignments I prefer are essays, research papers, and summaries. I do want to get better at essays. I am assured I can do a strong job on essays. Research papers are appealing to me because I learn extra facts about the topic I would be researching. I wish my teacher knew that my aspiration for this 2017-2018 year is to have
In chapter seven, I learned the importance of drafting a thesis statement for a descriptive essay. A thesis statement will aid the writer in only adding information that supports the statement. This step prevents writers from including random pieces of extra information that may take the focus away from the main idea. However, if there are details that are irrelevant to the paper but important to the writer the writer must make some adjustments to the thesis statement so that the detail can continue to be relevant to the thesis. Learning about drafting a thesis statement in a descriptive essay will impact me in a way where I can avoid adding too much unnecessary information.
