Novelist, Eric Schlosser, in his novel, “Fast Food Nation”, expresses how fast food has spread. Schlosser’s purpose is to make us see how addicted we are to fast food. He adopts a shocking tone through the use of diction, Logos, and diction in order to get people to make better choices.
Schlosser argues America’s lives are solely based off of fast food. Throughout his writing he describes how common it is in our society in which fast food is ordered, sold, and consumed. Everywhere you go, every glimpse you take, every corner you pass, fast food is being sold everywhere. Schlosser describes throughout his text the commonality of fast food in restaurants, airports, schools, and large chained stores available nationwide, in which each compress the similarity of fast food. Not only does he include how common fast food is in an American’s life, but he describes how Americans will spend more of their money in their wallet on fast food than they would on other livelihood essentials. He includes how vastly the economy has been effected
In Margaret Visser’s essay, “The Rituals of Fast Food”, she explains the reason why customers enjoy going to fast food restaurants and how it adapt to customer’s needs. Some examples of the most loyal fast-food customers are people seeking convenience, travelers, and people who are drug addicts.
The author encourages that there are alternatives to fast food. But that point can be argued. There are not alternatives to choosing fast food over grocery shopping. Fast food restaurants are also pulling people in to go eat there for example Wendy’s and McDonald’s offer salads with fruits and nuts in it but people think that the salad is fresh. So instead of going to the market to get the food people choose fast food. People have to work but instead of packing their lunch they find getting fast food is more convenient for them to buy food there. If people don’t like to cook they will choose to go to a fast food restaurant because in their minds there is no other alternative for fast
Obesity is an increasing national crisis. The main cause is hiding in between the wrappers of those yummy and tasteful fast food meals that we cannot simply resist. Some corporations blame it on the one who is consuming the product and some try to make better choices to change them. However, others are ignoring the claims that the fast foods are unhealthy and refuse to change it to a healthier food product. It is important for people to know the actions that corporations are completely ignoring such as nutritional labels. Without a nutritional label, there are untold dangers or negative effects to the one consuming the product.
Obesity due to unhealthy food has been a long-lasting problem in America. Many people blame the government, and other blame the fast food companies directly. In the article “The Battle Against Fast Food Begins in Home” the author argues that parents are the ones who are really to blame. This is actually true because who better than parents to tell their children what to do? Parents are responsible for the obesity of their children because children listen mostly to their parents, and because it’s their obligation to take care of their children.
The documentary, Food Inc., takes a deeper look at the food industry and how it has changed over the years. The McDonald brothers played a huge part in changing the food industry forever. The brothers began to run their restaurant in a factory style. Each worker only had one specific job to do. Because the workers were assigned simple tasks, they were all paid a low wage and were easily replaced. The factory style restaurants had positive and negative sides. The positives were fast, good-tasting food. However, the negatives were much more prevalent. McDonalds became a chain restaurant that appeared all over the United States. The owners wanted their food to taste the same at all locations. This was achieved by purchasing all their meat and
America changed by people getting obese.”Some schools have contracts to sell fast food; others have special days allotted for fast food” (Barboza,Page 8). In the article “If You Pitch It, They Will Eat It” by David Barboza is about schools are making contracts to sell fast food. The schools are persuading the students to eat fast food by selling it to them. The students will come obese by eating too much fast food from their school. “It’s the fault of the parents who let their kids eat unhealthy foods and sit in front of the television for hours at a time” (Weintraub, Page 12) In the article “The Battle Against Fast Food Begins At Home” by Daniel Weintraub is about parents are making their children eat fast food in front of the television.
Why is it that America is the fattest country in the world? Who’s to blame? The parents or the fast food industries? Since 2000 research has shown that ⅓ of child are now overweight. Teenagers are blaming fast foods industries for their health problems, but no one is forcing them to eat the food. Obesity is a serious issue in the United States now causing some public health groups in california to ask the governor to declare a childhood obesity state of emergency, recording to Daniel Weintraub. I believe that children obesity does start at home and parents are to blame because they are letting their children eat unhealthy foods, lack of exercise, and overall poor choices.
The novel Fast Food Nation written by Eric Schlosser explains the monstrosity behind fast food and the secrets it holds. Schlossar talks about widely known fast food chains. He explains the secrets behind McDonald’s , Burger King, and other fast food restaurants you might eat on a regular basis. Fast Food Nation contains a detailed description of how these restaurants got started and what is inside those pre-heated hamburger, burrito, and french fries you are holding in your hand. Fast Food Nation is a well written (a bit boring) detailed book that may make you avoid fast food for a while.
Our country is in a state of panic over the child obesity issue, but yet our schools still serve children over processed junk for lunch. I think that it would benefit not only the school, but the country to switch to healthier food options in the cafeteria, even if it means cutting out someone's favorite food.
