Born in Milan, Ohio but raised in Port Huron, Michigan on February 11, 1847, Thomas Alva Edison was born. He was a brilliant man. But he was also a very arrogant man. He died on October 18, 1931. As a child, he was the last of seven kids in his family. He didn't attend public school much and his mother mostly taught him all of the basics of education like reading, writing, and math. (Edison Biography) Because of this, he had a lot of free time. Because he was such a curious kid, he spent most of his free time reading. When he was working at the young age of thirteen like most boys did back then, he read books to and from Detroit and Port Huron whilst selling newspapers on the train. This is where he first gave Tesla a job. He worked for Edison until he quit to make his own company. Edison had a strong grip on the New York area with his electricity. The only issue was that it wasn't a very large area. Because he used DC, he couldn't get a large market because of how minimalistic his power was. If he had just used AC, he could have made an electricity tycoon of sorts. But this tycoon led to success for Edison and those surrounding him until it didn't.
There is no doubt in my mind that he can be called an American Hero. He was a large name in the Industrial Age. This period of time was very important for America. At the time, you could compare America to a teenager. Very impressionable. Anything that happened left a big impact and changed the route of America forever. People like Thomas Edison, Tesla, Rockefeller, and all of these other people knew this and took advantage of it. Not only did they help themselves by making themselves rich and well known, but the helped America out of its infancy and into the real world to make us a World
