In 1869, he moved to new york and developed his first invention when he was only twenty-two years old. He improved a stock ticker and the Gold and Stock telegraph company paid him forty thousand dollars for the rights. Although edison was an independent entrepreneur, he made partnerships in the laboratory he had and manufacturing facility in Newark, New Jersey. Edison developed products for the highest bidders but he would usually work for the Western Union Telegraph Company but also for their rivals. Another invention he did was invent a way to transmit two different sigmas in the same wire. Once he was done with this, he described to sell it to the western Union but tycoon jay paid Edison $100,000 for the invention, taking away from the western union. Edison expanded his operations to Menio Park, New Jersey and built an independent industrial research facility where he had machine shops and laboratories. Finally on December 1877 he developed a method for recording sound. Edison invented many things and participated in advancing other inventions that we still use in the present. Some of these inventions were, the Carbon microphone which was made in the year 1877, the Movie Camera, the Electric Power Distribution made in the year 1880 and many more inventions. …show more content…

Edison started his research for this invention in the year 1878 but was made in the year 1879. He tested it with different metal filaments including platinum. Platinum didn't work though because it was too expensive and it wouldn't burn as much. It was until 1879 that he found a figment that would work perfectly. He found that a carbon figment that was made with carbonized thread would burn for about 13.5 hours, but he later discovered that a carbonized bamboo filament would last over 1200 hours! Because this invention came out good, he then set up an electric light company in Newark in 1881. Later the company's ,Paris Lighting Exhibition and The Crystal Palace In London used his light bulb invention. ( www.edisonmuckers.org/thomas-edison-lightbulb/ )
