Whenever there is an urge or need for something new, human beings have seeked for ways to overcome it. There have been many great inventions by some great people that are used by us today and are helping in making our lives easier. Today we cannot imagine our lives without these amazing inventions like electricity, light bulbs, microphones, electricity distribution systems, kinematograph, phonograph, and many more. The credit for all these great inventions goes to one person that is Thomas Alva Edison, a very big name in history of mankind. He is known by his great inventions and his work in this field. Thomas Alva Edison was an American inventor and a businessman as well. He was born in Milan, Ohio, United States on February 11th, 1847. He got his education from Cooper Union from 1875-1879. He was married to Mina Miller and Mary Stilwell and had two children Theodore Miller Edison, Charles Edison. He developed many devices that greatly influenced life around the world, including the phonograph, the motion picture camera, and a long-lasting, practical electric light bulb. He received many awards, which were named Technical Grammy Awards, Grammy Trustees award and many more.

A phonograph is a device used to record and play sound. It is also known as a Gramophone or a record player as well. Thomas Edison invented it in 1877. It was introduces in 1877 for the purpose of mechanical recording and reproduction of sound. When Edison invented phonograph, there were many other inventors who had already produced devices for producing sounds, but Edison’s phonograph had the ability to record sound as well. This thing distinguished it from the other similar
Nikola Tesla and his ideas, his beliefs that he could change the world gave him motivation, inspired him to work hard and in turn he accomplished alot earning him a place in history. Preparation Nikola Tesla and his life experiences, work, education, and background all prepared him or led him to earn a place in history, helped shape his accomplishments and contributions to the history of the United States. His education played a key role in which helped shape the accomplishments he would one day make to earn a place in history. The following from
He continue to create an electrical system. Thomas Edison continued to industrialize after inventing the bulb, thus giving us life of electricity. LABOR ISSUES The U.S faced
Daniel Garza Mrs. Magee Honors U.S. History 2 30 October 2016 Impact of an invention: Phonograph During the Progressive Era, technology fascinated American citizens. “One invention followed another: an ice-making machine in 1865, the vacuum cleaner in 1869, the telephone in 1876, the phonograph in 1878, the electrical light bulb in 1879, an electrical welding machine in 1886, and the first American- made gasoline- engine automobile in 1895, to name only a few” (Berkin, Miller, Cherny, Gormly; 533). By the time the twentieth century arrived, Americans expected a steady flow of mindboggling inventions.
Throughout history, there have been individuals that have greatly altered the course of the United States, such as Martin Luther King Jr. during the Civil Rights Era, Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War with the emancipation of slaves, or maybe even Henry Ford and his cars during the Industrial Revolution. Even though there are influential politicians and businessmen that exist in the United States, many influential American scientists exist as well, such as Albert Einstein and Alexander Graham Bell. Despite there being many influential and important scientists throughout the United States’ history, Thomas Edison is the most influential and important scientist thanks to his inventions that have revolutionized many modern industries: music, movies, and most importantly, electricity. Thomas Alva Edison is often considered one of the best inventors of all time and has had a massive impact on modern life despite his work being much over one hundred years old.
All throughout American history there has many intelligent individuals that have played significant role in our society. I believe Thomas Edison has been one of the most influential people. He was an American inventor who is considered one of America’s leading businessman. People today credit him for helping to build America’s economy during the nation’s vulnerable early years. Thomas had a very good childhood and was a very hard worker as a teenager.
He was the youngest of seven children and his mother was a teacher. Thomas Edison helped invent over 1000 inventions, some of which include the camera and the microphone, but Edison’s largest success in life was the recreation of the light bulb, in 1879 when he discovered that a carbon filament inside an oxygen-free bulb could glow (Science for Kids). Significance: The most obvious significance of the recreation of the electric light bulb is that people now had easy access to a light to use after the sun went down.
In this Research paper I will show the information taught in schools about Thomas Edison is inaccurate. My paper will provided documented materials and proven fact about Thomas Edison,
Group B – Question #2 Thomas Edison had huge impacts on the United States. Not just because he brought electricity to all parts of the country or because he created the high-powered phonograph, but because he also had an influence on the modern business world. Because of Thomas Edison the business and industrial realm were able to merge with science. In the United States, modern technology had an evident distinction between industrial America and the American home before Thomas Edison came into the picture.
He also had received credit for the radio, and the fluorescent light bulb. In one of his biggest accomplishments, his AC dynamos, or machines, are powering the Northeast United States (Lake). Nikola Tesla pioneered us into the future, his inventions affecting the world then and
The intellectual elements during 1865-1900 mainly involved inventors. Many inventors, about 20,000 per year, in the 1890s “flooded the U.S. Patent Office” with their applications, which was staggering compared to the 1,000 per year in the 1850s (Keene, 475). Some of the more recognizable inventors include Alexander Graham Bell, who invented the telephone, and Thomas Edison, who is known for many inventions, including the incandescent light bulb. Also, George Eastman and Isaac Singer were notable inventors. The former created the Kodak camera, while the latter invented the sewing machine.
“One of the most famous and prolific inventors of all time, Thomas Alva Edison exerted a tremendous influence on modern life, contributing inventions such as the incandescent light bulb, the phonograph, and the motion picture camera, as well as improving the telegraph and telephone” (Library of Congress) Edison was one of the best inventors of all time, With so many amazing inventions still contributing to modern life today. This shows a side of people glorifying Thomas Edison for his amazing achievements but completely overlooking all the bad things he did while trying to make a name for himself. “Edison’s detractors insist that his greatest invention was his own fame, cultivated at the expense of collaborators and competitors alike. ”(The NewYorker)
Have you ever wondered where the light bulb came from, or why you are able to have electricity everywhere in your house, or who invented what lets you watch your favorite movies and TV shows? Well, all this and much more was made possible by Thomas Alva Edison. Thomas Edison was a creative inventor that pushed the science world forward 100 years and had a major positive impact on his decade, the world, and even the rest of history. Thomas Edison had a major positive impact on his society. A large portion of jobs and inventions can be traced back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
This supports the thesis in the opening paragraph. Thomas Edison’s work in motion pictures was inspired by Muybridge's analysis of motion. The first Edison device resembled one of his other inventions, the phonograph with a spiral arrangement of 1/16 inch photographs made on a cylinder. Viewed with a microscope, the first few motion pictures were rather crude, and hard to focus.
Thomas Edison is an American inventor and businessman, who has been described as “America’s greatest inventor.” His tireless work efforts and dedication to science not only helped him to create inventions that have advanced technology , but also become an inspirational figure for Americans. His improvements and inventions on objects that were already invented helped the lives of over millions of Americans. He helped to build America’s economy during some of its more vulnerable years as a new nation. Thomas Edison’s inventions have helped to advance our society though his dedications and knowledge in mechanical, electrical, and chemical sciences.
The music we here from our CD players, the turmoil of emotions we feel from the music and sounds within a movie is all possible because of the phonograph. Invented in 1877 by Thomas Edison, it was originally invented to make the telephone more popular and easier than the telegraph, but as time went on it has led to many other inventions we take for granted today. Edison came up with the idea of this magnificent machine in his laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey. Although Charles Cros did publish a similar machine in April, 1877, Edison is still credited for this invention. Edison had the idea to create a machine that would record the message and then be able to play it back.
