Sociology is the branch of science that focus on understanding how a group or population of people behaves rather than looking at an individual. Sociology looks at how the society molds or influence an individual behavior, social interactions and social relations. Sociology has help us broaden our understanding our perspective of the world we live in. Sociological imagination refers to the relationship between individual experiences and forces in the larger society that shape our actions. 6. Describe the three dominant theoretical paradigms in sociology.
Functionalism views society as a system of highly interrelated structures or parts that function or operate together harmoniously. Functionalism looks at how each different part of the society contributes to the harmony of the society, in its attempt to account for the complicated interrelationships of all the elements that make up human societies.
Conflict Theory Conflict theory proposes that each individual or group struggles to attain the maximum benefit, which causes society to constantly change in response to social inequality and social conflict. People gather together in a match to protest a new law that is view as unfair to them and other group, like the women march on the 21st of January, 2017. Conflict theorists believe social order results from those in power making sure that subordinate groups are loyal to the systems that are the dominant groups’ sources of wealth, power, and prestige.
